I spent a lot of years in Africa and wild parts of Asia in the 90's and saw many great Hilux's and their cool Land Cruiser relatives. In those days, there were no pick ups with 4 real doors and a real back seat available in the USA. I wanted one bad. It seemed like the perfect vehicle. When proper double cab Tacomas became available here, I rejoiced. I thought, finally a Hilux like vehicle here. I still say that and finally I bought one (one week ago tomorrow). Now, if they came out with a turbo-diesel here, I would trade in my truck and dive right in. That is the idea combination of functionality and efficiency. Please Toyota (or someone else), bring one here -----WITH a MANUAL!!!! and we will buy!

I have owned several super duty deisel 4x4's they are too heavy! They suck in the sand and mud! They are great for pulling heavy loads though! Now for snow and ice I have no clue as I do not get any snow here in Texas where I am located. I would think a lighter 4x4 would off road better. The heavier deisel truck in my experience want to sink and push through while the lighter gas engine will cruise easier over the top and save fuel. I do think those trucks look freaking awesome!

Could not agree with you more my driver is a TDI but why doesn't VW import it's diesel truck? I would buy one of them. I really think there isn't enough market for them most Americans do not like diesels because of their bad rap. I love my Tacoma but I sure would like some thing that give me 30% better mileage, pulling a camper @ 10-12 MPG sucks. I do think people are wising up to diesel economy over gas and when they get over the stinky, noisy, slow diesel ideal we'll see a diesel Tacoma.

This is the standard Toyota 4x4 in every country around the globe except for the US. Diesel 4-cylinders with a straight front axle. Why!!!
