So I am at the gym the other day and there was a "come in and get checked out for only $20" thing going on. I was usually walk right by them, but then I got to thinking how my neck and back has been bothering me a bit. I figure for 20 bucks to take some x-rays it couldn't hurt.

I stopped in, they took x-rays, she "said" she felt something outa whack and that we will know better when the x-rays are developed.

Today I go in to look at the x-rays... Well, first she explained all about their system and how to read xrays and what they do. They don't just crack your back, they try to fix whats wrong and prevent it from happening again.

Well, apparently my neck is screwed up. Something about an s-curve which is rare she said. I guess the bottom half of my neck is ok, but the top half is curved opposite of what it is supposed to. Maybe from too much computer or driving <shrug>. She seemed to think it was serious and something to get fixed now. Usually I am skeptical, but it's hard to argue the pain and x-rays. 3 months of treatment to start and it was gonna cost me $1,000 outa pocket  I told her I don't have that kind of money right now....so she knocked what I owe down to $750 and I signed up for a 12month 0% health card. I just hope that I start feeling better because it's been getting worse.

Anyone have any experiece with this type of chiropractor?

My brother-in-law is a chiropractor. He doesn't take x-rays. He makes his assessments based on how things are lined up, strengths/weaknesses, tenderness/pain. He let's me test him from time to time and he can always tell me what and where the problems are without my explanation. I get his services for free, though.

I see a chiropractor on a regular basis, but I'd be hesitant to believe a service that is making a profit from you.
I went to the Doc about neck/back pain and had x-rays done in the lab, I had straightening of the cervical spine, it is probably more common than you think. It is not serious unless you are losing feeling in your arms or getting light headed or things like that, don't let them convince you of wrong info just so they get your $$. Do some research first or get a 2nd opinion if you can afford it. I'm assuming you don't have insurance?
My Chiro has corrected my neck (cervical spine) and helped my lower back a lot also. I have lost the curve of my thoratic area (between the shoulder blades) and he says I will never get it back, it was probably due to a crash on my quad a few years ago. I feel much better after 6 months of treatment, but I am going for another 6 months 2-3 times a month. I only pay $10/visit though.
    Good luck :).

My wife goes all of the time. I never go. Reason: It's like smoking crack -- once you do it, you'll always go back...

I don't want to drop that kind of coin... :D

i forgot all the details, but my insurance is only paying like part of 17 visits for the first quarter. She is saying I need to go 3 days a week for the first 3 months to see the best progress...which is why I have so much coming out of pocket. 3 months x 3 visits a week= 36 visits . that = $20 a visit  I thought my insurance paid a lot more...I will get a copy of what she got from the insurance today and see the total breakdown. I may even give the insurance a call and see what they have to say.

She keeps saying money isn't the issue and she was dropping the price everytime time I said it was for me....

That is a lot of visits just to correct a curvature problem of the neck in my opinion. I was going once a week for a couple months, then I went to every other week or more often if it started to bother me a lot. My lack of curve in the neck was the easiest to resolve.
But if you feel comfortable with the program then go for it, I love the Chiro. If your insurance will pay for part of it then check and see if you can find a place that they will cover all/more. My insurance pays all, but the co-pay if I go to one on their list, I pay if I go to one not on their list.
Either way, definately go to a chiro and you will feel better.

I think this one is in my network. I have no co-pay on any doctor I visit. After the first couple weeks I may drop to 2 days a week. I don't have a lot of time to get there 3 days a week. That seems pretty extreme imo as well.

I had to go after the wife and I had a head on with another car. Insurance paid for it all. Hit so hard I was able to get out of the passenger side with the seat attached to my body. Seat belt saved my life and kept me from going through the windshield. But it messed up my back and neck, was fixed up in a year.
    Well worth it...........

I actually have a neck injury where things are bent the wrong way that has caused tissue damage and compressed all the nerves in my neck and shoulder causing me to have migraine headaches. I have been going through a program myself which started out 2 x a week but I am usually there for about 3 hours a visit. Things as simple as how you sleep can cause additional damage. I thought it was kind of a joke at first until they started measuring things and doing treatments and I saw instant results. Good luck with your recovery
