Are they really worth it? I've heard that the lock can sieze up due to dirt and grime.
Any opinions on the automatic popper vs. the key lock.
I know it's just a deterent, but I can get one instelled for $100 (key type), that's kind of a rip off.
I also know about the hose clamp mod and will be doing that soon.

    Thank you.

I never had problems with the one on my 03 Tacoma. Keeps the less experienced thiefs from walking away with your tailgate. And what you have in your bed.

You thinks it's worth $100 installed?
I've heard of people getting them for aroun $50 and i don't have a garage so I got to get it put in somewhere.

Yeah I would look for cheaper. A $100 is a bit steep. I think the lock is around $30. Check ebay & DIY.

The winters are filled with salt where I live and I don't think mine will last another winter. Since you live in San Diego, I don't think you'll have much problem. As far as the installation, it's really simple with basic tools. I think I bought mine for between $30 and $40 a year ago.

Just paid 48 bux for one including shipping off ebay the other day. 100.00 is 2 much. Get something like dry waxy mt bike chain lube (aka white lightning) & fill the lock up real good with it before installing to help prevent seizures. Works real good on exposed gate locks on fences all out in the weather so it should help with this.

I purchased mine on ebay pretty cheap and installed it. It was pretty easy. I have had it on with the snow, salt, dirt, and freezing temps and i haven't had an issue yet.

It is a little steep to pay for both the lock and install at $100.00. I got mine last month and took under a half hour to install. Its not difficult to install. Just read the directions and take your time. Google "pop and lock" for different places that sell the lock. Some even provide free shipping. Ebay is good also. If I lived close to you I'd come over and install it at no charge (ok, maybe for a beer).

I just installed a regular Pop'n lock.took about 15 minutes.I know it's not totally secure but if someone is going down the line checking doors and tailgates,it's enough to send them on to the next one.If they really want my stuff, they'l cut my tonneau and go in that way.......I paid about $50 CAD.Worth it in my opinion.

I just put one on here about about month ago when I got my new soft tonneau cover. I think I paid like $60 with shipping. The install is really easy. The hardest part is removing all the damn hex screws to get to the backside of the factory tailgate handle. $100 seems a bit much.

i got one so i could secure stuff in the bed while i am at college (along with my lockable bed cover) i paid about 40 for mine, and installed it in 15 minutes. i wouldn't worry about it seizing up. mine spends time in virginia (very salty roads in the winter) and florida (very salty humid air) and it still works smoothly.

Looking forward to buying the lock for my '09 when it's available.
I'll just add some Lock-Ease graphite solution now and then which should eliminate any winter problems.

Although there isn't much, there is negative feedback on the locking system and even if I live in San Diego, who knows where I'll end up, but my taco is coming with me!
What do you think about the automatic pop-n-locks?
    Thanks

Thank you but what is this part for? It doesn't really specify. It says 06 TCOMA TAILGATE L
I'm assuming a lock but what kind?
    Auto or Key?
    Thanks again.

That's the Pop-n-Lock from Toyota that uses a key. (2005-08 Tacomas)
