Stock 97 2.7l Reg Cab Gear Ratio?

I am 16, have had my lifted Tacoma for about 1 month now, and when i first put it in 4x4, in the dirt it did fine, but I should be able to drive on the highway in 4x4 too, but if I do, my truck hops around all over the road, it has lower gears in the rearend and stock in the front, i know thats why, so what is the gear ratio for the front so i can match that for my rearend?

I think that my 95 Tacoma 2.7 has 3.51 by reading the code on the sticker on the door. Check your sticker, It will probably tell you what the factory gear ratio was.

im just going to restate what 98tacoma27 has said.

if you have different gear ratio in the front and in the rear, either the front or rear will spin faster than the other. EX...

4.10s in the front and 4.88s in the rear, the front will spin faster than the rear, causing the rear to not keep up and the gears will end up grinding and BOOM. i know thats confusing. but yeah.

Ya bro I know that i just need to get it fixed so i need to know the stock ratio.

 

Why? Thats the point of having 4x4 in the winter for the snow

I found the axle code A/TM B03A, can you guys help me figure what ratio that is?

 

Yeah I thought it was considered normal to use 4WD in the winter during normal driving. That is why I turn my hubs in when the weather turns. It is similar to AC. People don't use it because it makes the engine work harder and thus use more fuel. But in Germany, and in my old Mercedes, the AC is to be used during warm and cold weather for climate control, because it is like a mega dehumidifier.

I will continue to use my 4WD. If it blows up, I will sell the SOB.

 

I doubt the gears are different.

If your gears were significantly different even on dirt things wouldn't be good. I can't imagine someone stupid enough to decide to change only the rear gears?

When you get snow in georgia then use 4x4 on pavement, never on dry pavement.
