    Dude, this just happened about 2 hours ago , I'm in shock & prolly venting how I feel right now but I'll tell ya when you start talking about a auto trans rebuild on a tacoma 4x $3500- $4000.00 isn't out of realm, but I'd go junkyard before doing that (thats prolly what will happen) Just let me grieve/piss & moan/ mostly cry for a bit... ok bro' ?:(

    auto trans rebuilds aren't cheap at all unless you do it yourself, and even than i'm not sure what aftermarket parts there are for tacos , and junkyard is a great option as long as it works. you may even be able to get a salvage truck for pretty cheap, or hell hit up forums like here , ttora and pirate 4x4 someone may have one laying around from a build.

    I thought when auto trannys go out they just can't hold a gear? But not sure, just never hear of one gernading like that. Hopefully its the transfer case, cause that should be cheaper.
