You didn't hit a nerve, you just exposed a way in for those that bash all pre-runners, but my guess is it was all in jest, hence .

There is perpetual ribbing between those with real trucks and fake trucks here.

The market it pretty upside-down right now, used cars/trucks are selling for a premium while new ones can be found comparatively cheap.. It's because waayyy more people want to buy used nowadays compared to previous years. Check it out yourself - look for used tacomas on craigslist or any used car website, then compare that to the price of brand new ones in the same configuration. It comes down to a matter of only a couple of G's. And when you're talking about buying a 3-4 year old vehicle with 30k+ miles on it, you might as well bite the bullet and get a new one. Probably save you money in the long run just in depreciation alone.

But I agree - buy the best truck you can afford. If you find an amazing deal on a used one, do it.

Plus if financing, you can usually get a lower interest rate on a new one and maybe even finance longer if needed.

    That's what I thought.
Evidently there are some here that think if you don't have a 4X4 lifted at least 6 inches you don't have a real truck! I have no need for a 4X4 so I bought a 2X4 and I like a smooth ride so will probably leave the suspension stock...guess I'm a faker.

Like I typed earlier I bought my 11 about three weeks ago and got a great deal. At least I think i did. Got it for 2500 off msrp. Plus they gave me 1500 more on my trade-in than what KBB listed.
Do your local Toy dealers have much Taco inventory? My dealer had 20+ on the lot and wanted to move them....

I'm very happy with my TRD sport 4x2. It rides and handles like a sedan. Smooth and not a bumpy ride at all.
When I was looking for a truck I knew I didn't need or want 4x4. I knew I would be on the road 99% and even that 1% off road was optional for me and would probably amount to just dirt roads. I wanted the sport package and that's what I got.

Sounds like you'll be needing that 4x4 at least some part of the year.

If it helps, the outlet in the bed is pretty useless.

OK so you really want him to believe you will pay $2k LESS for a 3-4 year old 30K mile Tacoma over a new one? REALLY? I suggest you ask around here and you will find lots of people who bought ALL years used at significant savings over the same new without regard to already low interest rates....

Who the fuck would buy a used 4 year old Tacoma for $2k less than a new one? Here's a clue..... NO ONE. So there should be thousanes of Used Tacomas on lots and in the papers EVERYWHERE!!!!! Here is another clue. Used low mileage Tacomas are not easy to to find for a reason.... THEY ARE A BARGAIN. Meaning a better buy than a new one.

You made the common Tacoma owner rationalization and mistake of confusing and assuming an asking price with an actual SELLING price. They can ask anything for a truck. ONLY the end buyer knows what they will sell it for. I got a three year old pristine Tacoma with 24K PLUS (and a year left on the factory warranty) WITH over $1000 worth of accessories and add ons for $7000K + less than a new one without any adds. . Yeah they were "asking" $2-3K less..$23995....Sold OTD for $20K and change The deal took less then 30 minutes.

I suggest you ask around here and you will find lots of people who bought used at GREAT prices vs NEW.....The MYTH is still alive....LOLthree year old Used is selling for 2k less than a new truck.....WOW Try getting that on a trade........There is your actual cash value. What you can get today from a buyer.

No. Not at all. Course I do want a double cab 4x4, but he's got a grand total of .... one. And he ain't anxious at all to part with it.

It's basic supply and demand. I live in a town of 100,000+ but we still only have one large volume Toyota dealer within an hour and a half drive. It just so happens that today I looked at a 2009 DC 4x4 sport with 26K miles on it and they want $28,500 for it. The hell of it is, it'll be gone by the weekend. Too many young professionals, plus a 35,000-student university and two smaller colleges in town.

After getting sick of finding trucks online and having them gone or papers-signed when I got to the dealership, I bought a new SR5 DC 4x4 for $28K before trade-in. I think I got a good deal, and yes - I could have cut a deal on a used truck for a little off but they're just not dealing around here because they know that used tacos sell. I maybe could have got a similar truck for $25-$26 with a few years on it and 20-30K miles on it. Not worth it to me.

ETA - big 500 on the tacomaworld post odometer. Awesome.

When it comes to auto sales, region and dealer network has a lot to do with sale price.

Don't know if it would be worth it to you to fly up to Little Rock, but Landers Toyota still has a bunch on the lot and almost all of them are 4x4s. I got one of the last 2wd '11s that they had. The other local dealer is Caldwell Toyota in Conway and they had at least a dozen 4x4s a couple weeks ago.
If you figure exactly what you want and call them and do a deal over the phone they would probably pick you up at the airport.
    Just a thought........

Kingfrog what is with the hostility? Like what was said before, it's all about supply and demand. In many areas, used Tacomas sell for a premium, even those that are priced high.

I'd take a step back and tone down the aggression. We're just having a discussion, no need to get all red-faced. You're coming off like a douche.

I want to thank all of you on the Tacoma World Forum for all your honest answers and help.

Based mainly on what all of you told me, as well as not having the "assist handles" in the back for my wife and mother, I've decided that much as I like them, a Tacoma won't fit my needs.

So this weekend, I went down to my local Chevy dealer and picked up a new Silverado. Sometimes, no matter how good something may be, it's just not a good fit. That's what happened here and I only knew that because of the help all of you provided.

Thanks to all of you. See you in the dirt!
