Unsuccessful Leaf Spring Replacement 03 4x4

Today I attempted to replace my worn out leaf springs with new leafs from AllPro, the All-Pro Standard Duty Leaf Springs. Everything was completely removed until I attempted to remove the front bolts out of the bushing… NOT SUCCESSFUL .. the front bolt would not budge!.. It seems the rubber bushing has become one with the bolt.. I turn the bolt.. but the bushing turns as well… I had to put it all back together to drive it out of my friends garage..

Suggestions on how I get the front Leaf Spring Bolt out of the bushing!..

Are you suggesting cutting the bolt on each side, inside the bracket.. will my sawzall cut that pin?

 

Angle grinder is a good method. Common approach w/seized main eye bolts on our crusty old first gens.

 

An angle grinder will. I think others have used a sawzall and gone through several blades and several f-bombs.

 

Yes if you have a decent recip saw and a good blade. Also, a BFH and a punch works wonders as well.

 

Do I have to get replacment Pins from the Dealership?

 

wheelers offroad has the main eye bolts. Just use a sawzall and with the correct blade + Lube it should cut like butter.

 

Not necessarily. You can order them from Wheeler's Offroad, just down the road in Grants Pass, or you may be able to find a close match at Lowe's. The stock ones are ~4.5 inches long. Lowe's has 4 in and 5 in. grade 8s. Watch the side near the gas tank. Not much clearance.

 

Its a stud, it has to knocked out. Use a BFH and a driving pin or old screwdriver..whack.it out. Soak it in grease or lube first if you want.
Then go down to local hardware store and get grade 8 replacements..easy peasy

 

I had the same issue. I got grade 8's from the local hardware store when I had to sawzall the old ones out. I have replacement ones now from Toyota($10 from dealer), but haven't put them in yet.

 

Thats how I got mine out. Put the cutting wheel between the leaf and the bracket. My old bolts were still siezed in the leafs when I brought them to the metal scrap yard.
