    why dosnt toyota offer to repair the frame issues on the 1st gen tacos instead of just crushing
    or at least part them out
    its hard to find a taco in my local junck yards and this would make use of those good parts on them:confused:

    Imagine this: Toyota gives you a large some of money for your truck. So, in one hand the keys are now gone and in the other is a nice fat check. There you are sitting at a Toyota Dealership with no ride and a wad of cash. What are you going to do? You love Tacomas and Toyota in general. Chances are you are going to walk off the lot with a brand new or certified Tacoma. Or in my case a Tundra.

    Do you realize the man hours it would take to swap frames? These frames were not repairable. They needed replaced, over half a million of them if not more. The cost of a replacement frame along with the man hours involved in replacing far out weighed scrapping them. Scrapping them allows them to recoup some of their losses.

    Toyota made a smart move in doing this. I, forever, will own a Toyota because of how they treated me.

    i understand them doing this if they have to replace the entire frame but if its just in like in one spot then they could cut the bat part out and replace it
    and then put a protectave coating on it so it wont rust any futher

    No, the frame gets thin real quick. It attacks it from the inside and you can't get in there effectively to do anything about it. I had to patch my frame three years in a row to pass inspection. This last time was when they offered the buyback and I took it. My crossmember above the spare was starting to go.

    I'm pretty sure they're replacing the frames for the 01-04's, as the frames are still in production. 95.5-00 are going right to the crusher.

    It was a 98 TRD extra cab with just a litlle over 150k. They gave me over $12K and I walked out with my 05 Tundra for $13K ($14K with tax and tags)

    That rust looks like a pic from the Titanic! That's pretty crazy. Anyhow, Toyota probably figures its cheaper to crush all of the defective trucks versus risk a possible lawsuit in case a "repaired" Taco got in a wreck.

    Another fine point. Plus I believe they were taking the alloy rims off and recycling them.

    There were nineteen total trucks to be crushed when I turned mine in. One still had a nice bull bar on the front.
