That my last trip to the automatic car wash...

I went to the local automatic car wash thinking I'd just wash off all the dust and crap before my wife took the truck for the weekend. Thought the no-touch would be good.

Everything was fine until the end, when I went under those freaking jet engines they have to blow the water (and the top layer of paint) off the truck... I heard a bang and the first thing I thought was that the blower had picked up a rock or squirrel or something and flung it at my paint job.

No, what happened was the blower somehow got under and ripped the plastic seam strip right off the passenger side of the roof! The goddamned thing was curled up in the bed of the truck!

I have never, in any of the eight vehicles I've owned, had this happen to me. I was able to line it back up and pound it down into the little retention clips that are there, and it seems OK... Does anybody know if there's a glue or something that should be used (or should have been used)? I'd hate to lose the thing again on the highway.

3m body panel tape should work.

I have lost my antenna in a car wash, it goes well until the jet blowers, even my stubby antenna got worked well. so not I just leave it off IF i ever need a winter wash.

 

My dad lost a peice of door trim in one of those things... He went back to get it and they said pick which one is yours out of a pile of peices

 

I did one of those ones where you have to get out and then you can watch your truck go through and they were having issues so it ran through the whole thing bone dry! Luckily there was enough water still on the moving parts so it didn't scratch anything but I flipped out on the manager none the less. He tried giving me a free wash but I told him there was no way in hell I'd be back. I might have overreacted but I was pretty steaming watching it go all the way through without any water. Great way to ruin a paint job

 

i hate automatic car washes, they never get all the bugs off the front of my truck! only time i use them is in the winter when i dont wanna stand outside and freeze my ass off

I heart my local automatic wash...$5.00 gets a by-hand scrub from employees, and the automatic does a nice job.

I'm lazy.

 

Holy shit this exact same thing happened to mine when i went through the auto wash.

 

I had lost one of mine actaully, bought another one off a memeber here. Anyways, on the replacement one, I used silcone glue to help hold it down in place, especially near where it meets the windshield.

 

my strip came off when my truck was new driving down road.
the dealer replaced it and while installing it, i saw them use some type of glue.
not sure what it was.

I'm glad that I only do a wand wash. I don't trust those car washes.

 

I took mine through the automatic car wash and the sprayers somehow took the rubber seal around my back window off! I called the shop to figure out what the best thing to do was, and they said try to push it back into place with like a plastic pizza roller. I've never got it to completely seal back up.

Any thoughts on what i should do? Or glue i should use?

 

No more auto car washes for me. Chips and scratches. When mine gets washed, I do it at home in my garage or driveway.

When chips or scratches happen or you lose the strip off your roof, the auto car washes are not responsible. At least that's been my experience.

 

When i first got my 2005, my first road trip back home i heard a loud bang and was like wtf...pulled over a quarter mile down the road looked around and didn't notice anything. Later on noticed that same strip was gone, luckily under warranty so a quick and painless fix. But that was at 70mph. No problems since.

I take mine through a touchless car wash weekly. No issues, though it's funny seeing the hood flex under the blow-dryers.

 

I used to freak out when i 1st saw that happen....then i was like really!?
