    Yeah there isn't really, no need of having more than one here, I checked the database for the last SAR missions and we only had 1 around here this year, plus CFB gagetown is only 2-3 hours, so it wouldn't be long for extra help.

    Gotcha. We get about 15-40 missions each year..... :eek:
    Hey, that counts. :cool: So were these rescues not with a team then? Just sort of an emergency where people were needed for recues and you were there at the right time?

    I have been looking for a group around me in florida but nothing organized. I have been training my german shepherd to do tracking but we don't get to go out that much and really work on her skills. Probably gonna take a backpacking trip to GA next year and take her out there and see how she does. I wish there was a group near me

    I'm a member of the local SAR team here in Squamish BC. We get a lot of stranded hikers, which is kind of our bread and butter. But we also get stranded climbers, avalanche victims, body recoveries, urban searches, etc. Because things here are usually steep and slippery, we do a lot of helicopter ops, HETS and stuff like that. We also have a moving water team, and a high angle rope team, because there's a lot of rock climbing here. Oh ya and there's a mountain team. I'm involved with all of them in some fashion, mostly as GSAR, and in a month will be taking a rope rescue course for team members. We train one evening a week and one day of a weekend per month. I get to most of the training except during the playoffs :D

    Dang I was hoping to upload a couple of helicopter pics from training last year, but I can't from my iPad :(

    Nice vid, Matt! I was wondering when you were gonna post in here. :) Hey, have you read "Nonce Braver" by Michael Hirsh??? It's a compolation of stories of missions and roles played by PJs, CROs, and a couple CCTs in the War on Terrorism. One of my all-time favorites by far!

    of course. i've read it a few times. read it before i enlisted and i've read it since i've gotten out... so cool to read the same stories but from an entirely different perspective.

    have you read "lone survivor"? not a SAR book, but amazing story. i cried when i read it... both times.

    I figured you had. :cool: and I know what you mean, man. I read that thing in 2 nights.

    "Lone Survivor" was reccomended to me by my CRO buddy a while back, but I never ended up getting a copy and I guess I forgot... Never read a book that made me literally cry, so I'll definately read it! About Pararescue?

    Kudos to you guys in Search & Rescue, professional and volunteer. I used to do those sort of things in my younger days too as an army medic and civilian paramedic.

Its volunteers also perform homeland security, disaster relief and counter-drug missions at the request of federal, state and local agencies. The members play a leading role in aerospace education and serve as mentors to more than 23,000 young people currently participating in CAP cadet programs. CAP has been performing missions for America for 68 years."

    This is a great organization for both young adults with the CAP Cadet program, and more experienced "seniors". You learn valuable skills, get outstanding training and it's a way to give back to your community.

    If you are a pilot or ever wanted to fly, check us out. Not a pilot??? you can train to be an aircrew member. We also have non-flying opportunities and ground team units.

    Very, nice. I was a CAP cadet for 2 years! lol The Mitchell award really helped me get in the ROTC program here at UNM. Also, I was fortunate enough to fly my first solo after 9.4 hrs in a Cessna 172P at National Flight Academy in Shawnee, OK. And my unit sent me on a full scholarship! :eek: It is a GREAT organization! The cadet involvement in SAR here in the New Mexico Wing is kinda suffering, but we've been making some nice improvements with trying to gain a good reputation among the law enforcement and US Customs and Border Patrol. So progress is being made. :)

    What is you're role in CAP?

    since I moved I made contact with local SAR, but between paramedic school (PCP) and ski patrol my time is very limited.

    I have my flight crew certification (Scanner and Observer), and hold many ICS level certifications for search base staff. was assistant state PIO and conducted various types of training......now just a crew dog at a local squadron. Been in about 13 years.
