nice mod! may consider this my self. wonder what it would look like if you did this AND the other mod to make the running lights turn signals too? i kinda look at it as the more flashing lights the better they are going to see you.

edit: Crom do you have a link to the ones you used? i think i would like to get some. and see how they would look on my truck. i think they they will stick out allot more on the silver. but maybe thats a goof thing.

Yes. I have them on my truck still, they work as good as the day I installed them. Best most used mod ever.

Yes I have factory DTRL. I specifically did not want my DTRL and new side markers to light up all the time when I drove around during the day time (we know they turn off when the headlights are on) so I installed a simple switch to give me control over them. All I had to do was interrupt one wire with a switch. I did a writeup of that here: DTRL toggle switch mod (stealth mode). It was very easy to do.

As far as your heavy duty LED on the fender, if you're going to tap the rear turn signals wires that's fine, it should work. Most LED's don't draw a lot of power so the stock system is fine with it. The LED's in this mod draw 0.3 Amps. Just make sure you protect your wires well from moisture.

I wouldn't do that... I don't want to have too many flashing lights as I could be mistaken for an emergency vehicle or something.

I got them at Oznium.com. Good company, with a decent product and good customer service.

    Thanks buddy! :)

Very nice write-up, looks great! I've picked up a few things from that site with no problems. I might do this one soon.

I noticed your location as Saline Valley. Do you live there? The hot springs there are awesome!

Thanks. I don't live there, but I go to the region as often as I am able. I passed through for a few nights in August. I'd be a full time nomad if it wasn't for wife and family. I'm in San Diego most of the time.

what? We've never seen you at a meet and greet or trail run. I still haven't done the mod. I purchased a banged tacoma fender from a junk yard to practice making the perfect hole for the light. Just nervous about it. Wanna check out the 2012 side mirrors of the new Tacoma before I start.

    Al,

Actually, I think we did meet once. It was at the TW meet in Feb 2010 at Santee Lakes that Rick organized back when he had is 2006 Tacoma.

    DSC00239_eea24d82bb36cfce130018f3048d89fd8a71aba5.jpg

Regarding the local trail runs... I do see the threads posted in the So-cal section and reports and I do enjoy reading through them and associated pictures. Maybe one day It will work out for me and I'll find the time to go...

I have explored much of San Diego's back country roads and trails before my daughter was born. Not so much in the last 18 months though. When I do have time off (4-5 days) I usually do an expedition to a National Park or State Park.

Your LED should work very well. I would just drill a hole in the fender large enough for the harness to go through and use some 3M tape to adhere the LED to the fender.

Are those the 4Runner mirrors? That's what I want to do, but the ones with the blinker+puddle lamp+heaters are $500/pr.

I wonder if you can get them without the heaters for less?

Wow.. didn't see that from the pictures. I guess I didn't pay attention. Might have to add those to the "expensive mods" list. Can the lights be seen from the rear/blind spots?

Nice that Toyota finally added turn signals to the mirror. It really increases safety. That's how it should be.
