Shoot one, and you'll know. Besides the cool factor, they're a great way to get wives or city folk out shooting without developing a flinch. Especially with a rimfire suppressor, I've never had someone shoot my Buck Mark and not get a giant grin on their face.

I've had my second form 4 pending for almost 3 months. Hopefully I'll have it for a carbine class at the end of October.

Not saying you are ignorant, but this is an ignorant veiwpoint. Silencers do not silence anything, that is why they should be called suppressors. Only if you are shooting subsonic ammo with a gun with a quiet action are they silent. But silencers do not allow you to sneak around and assassinate people. Most likely you have never fired a carbine inside of a house so you probably don't understand how loud and dangerous it is.
This is exactly why I want a suppressor. Plus if someone breaks into my house I don't want to make my child's ears bleed because some douchebag decided he liked my things more than his life.

Good luck to you. I am waiting on the ATF to tell the factory it is OK to make the SBR that I bought so I can start the second portion of my wait. I figure it will be March before I see my rifle. Probably going to get my suppressor from the SOT I have my rifle being sent to so I can wait for both at the same time.

I wasn't asking to be ignorant, I really wanted to know as I have no experience with them aside from the obviously (and mentioned tongue in cheek) cliche Hollywood portrayal. I appreciate the info.

No problem brother. I just get hit with the "Why would anybody want one of those?" questions from people who do not understand the benefits and the sheer badassedness of shooting a suppressed rifle. Look in all seriousness, they are fun as hell is the main reason why people want them.

It's all good. I was afraid that my question would come across wrong. I would love to try out my AR with a suppressor to see just what you mean. Thanks gain for the info.

Thanks! It's a Springfield also. I bought it through the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) for about $550. I had to clean and refinish the stock but it can get two inch groups at 100 yrds shooting from sandbags. I may get it rebarreled soon too. Everyone should have an M1!
