    Being real:

It's not as big a deal as anyone's making it. There are easy solutions to this situation. An example:

    ServicePerson 1: You gay?
    ServicePerson 2: Nope. You?
ServicePerson 1: Yep. Guess we won't be fuckin' then.
ServicePerson 2: Guess not. Hand me that MRE, would ya?

    Less real:

I doubt that...an informal survey of my old platoon shows quite the opposite.

well apparently from all the members that filled out the surveys that mattered (from all branches), shows the opposite.

Well I spent a couple weeks in some focus groups in Hawaii on the subject and didn't meet a single person that was against it.

Funny thing is the troops are already gay they just keep it to them selves.

    1. The survey over AKO? Kinda biased toward those that have AKO/DKO access at work dont you think? Or those that check AKO/DKO regularly. The vast majority of junior enlisted combat arms have no reason to check AKO/DKO. I know i didn't. I had a hard enough time finding internet access

    2. Just because its a survey doesn't make it a reliable statistic.

    3. A voluntary survey and a true random sample of a population are totally different

    4. One is a statistic and the other is just noise

Disclaimer: My only issue here is the 95% claim, which runs counter to my experiences in the Army. I pointed out that the 95% claim is not a true statistic and gave a possible reason to explain the seeming disconnect.

you also have to realize how many are not in the "macho" combat arms in the 5 branches and dont have the same mindsets. just because your small focus group of peers said the same thing also does not make a relevant statistic of everyone in the branches.

that survey was on all branches websites and were known to everyone. those websites are also accessible from home via CAC readers that most everyone are issued or can check out if they have that hard of a time getting to a machine at work. the people that will fill it out are the people that are deadset for or against it, the middle that dont care will not do it. obviously the one half had a much better showing. Kalamakid also stated he was in a focus group held by the military. still a better outcome than just asking a couple guys in the same MOS and same group. same could be said if I only heard answers from male nurses in the Navy.
