I knew I shouldn't have said anything before I had photos. I'll make it up to you guys. Pictures and videos of the next trip. If not tomorrow, Friday, or I will hand over the keys.

Also, I was doing some reading today, apparently, and I now know this to be true, during the first few hundred to a thousand miles, new engines produce a significant amount of metal shavings, some left over from machining and some from the metal to metal contact in the engine. I changed my oil today, with just over 300 miles, easy miles, but I ran the truck through the paces, and the amount of metal filings in the oil was pretty surprising. I'm really glad I read that article:

I also added a K&N drop in air filter and oil filter.

I will take pictures of the truck before work tomorrow. You will have to wait for wheeling' pictures until I get a chance to get back on the trail.

I took these on my laptop this morning. I forgot to get my camera before my girlfriend left for work...Deal with it. And what is the difference between breaking it in and putting it through the paces. I'm not dropping the clutch or racing or anything like that. I'm warming the engine up, and running it through the full rpm range to heat the cylinders enough to seal the piston rings. Driving like a girl (no offense ladies) can be worse for your engine than driving like a man, and both are better than driving like an idiot.

I didn't read this straight off, I doing my best to adhere to its suggestions now though. I appreciate you wanting to take care of your truck, but from my experience, if you don't use something for a while, when you do use it, things tend to break because they are not used to the stress. On the other hand if you train you truck to do what you want by doing it a lot, it tends to perform better. My truck is an athlete, not something that only gets out to grab groceries.

skim the article. do what you will. I intend to

I like how the front bumper is cut high in front of the wheels for a better approach angle on rocks and going up steep hills.

that's a pretty mean truck you've got NYCO. I wasn't trying to diss your technique, I'm just saying to each his own. If it turns out that I blow my engine at 150K I will make sure and let everyone know that I was wrong...and that i'm dropping in the diesel hilux engine.

I live outside of Durango, CO. I make it up to Gunnison every now and again. I mostly hit the old mining roads around Sliverton and Telluride. I'm game for a Colorado road trip if anyone wants to go hit some trails.
