Oh believe me i know what your saying. When we get a FL car for a brake job it's like doing a new car. No seized calipers or pivots. TORCHES NOT REQUIRED LOL

A few years ago my dad had bought an 05 Escape. The previous owners were from Michigan and then moved to Hawaii so it seen salt for 4 years before we got it. It had some rust on the inside of the rear lift gate and a lil on the undercarriage near the bolts. Too me it just didnt feel the same driving wise as the 04 that we had which was identical to it just one year older, Florida car with 40k+ more miles

I second this. Where I live in south PA isn't so bad. But mid to upstate NY where I am now is definitely much harder on my Tacoma. Most the cars I see driving around are squeaky & rusty. Most people around me only drive 0-5miles at a time too. It's a horrible place for a car.

I'd say about 50miles North of Philadelphia you start to get a lot more wear/tear. Last year in Albany it dropped to -20F for a day. My ipod didn't even work outside. The Tacoma started (even on an old battery) but after only 2 minutes of warming up I put the clutch in and put it in reverse (never let the clutch out) - it just stalled and wouldn't start again until noon. I've since changed the oil, trans fluid, and both differentials. I don't think they were the right rating for NY.

A few simple things I found helped are:
-Grease all moving parts with lithium greese 2x a year (door hinges, tail gate, throttle/brake cable, leaf springs, etc.)
-Wax your car really good before November
-Wash and then spray that undercarriage film stuff (usually it lasts 3years or so)
-Let your car warm up until it idles below 1500-1200 (when I start it up in the winter it sometimes idles at 2k rpms)
-for reference i get 700rpm idles in the summer
-oh and I usually grease my door key hole with a special grease that works to like -50F or so just incase (it supposedly evaporates all water when you spray it too)

This year I think I'm going to put an oil pan heat pad or engine block heater on the truck. It's supposed to really help gas mileage & cold engine wear. I figure it's worth it for $50 or less + I got a lift and shop I can use to install it. Also I don't pay for electricity at my apartment so..... it's kind of a win/win right now.

I did the Fogs on Mod. I used the no-splice, stuff it into the trailer relay method. It was super easy.

Finally ordered my aFe Intake (51-81162), installing tomorrow. I got the Pro Dry S. I've had K&N Oiled :)mad:) , and wasn't too happy with the performance and re-oiling process. Next is the aFe Mach Power exhaust (49-46002) :headbang:

Nice, I'm looking forward to it. Have you heard their exhaust yet??? It's sounds pretty nice, deep tone, not ricey/raspy at all. I wanted the Banks kit, but the aFe seems to be WAY better quality. They really pay attention to detail compared to other companies. Check out the spec. sheet

    http://afepower.com/catalog/49-46002/is.pdf

(I think the HP claims must be inaccurate ;))

Ask them for the dyno sheet that compares the afe to the stock exhaust. Until any of us sees proof, then yes, those HP claims are inaccurate.

Haven't heard their exhaust. I went with the Magnaflow and it sounds just right IMHO. That'll be a good setup for you. You'll love it.

Drove the monthly 10 miles in 4wd per the owners manual. Changed the oil and filter (Amsoil 5w30). Lubed the ujoints. Also drained the power steering reso. and added Amsoil ATF. The power steering fluid is already looking like azz after only 8000 miles. I will drain and fill this however many times it takes until it's all Amsoil. Might take a while :p
