My dealership I purchased my 09 from just called. Wants me to go talk to them about "upgrading" my truck to a new Taco. Woman tried saying I could get it for the same price or less, which I am pretty sure not. I have a 2009 PreRunner with 28,000 miles. No damage at all and regular maintenance. Never had trouble with it. I owe $16,000.

I am no way wanting to put anything down or pay more than the $400 I am paying now.

There is no possible way for me to get anything for the same price that would be an upgrade, right? I am pretty much a hard ass in regards to people trying to persuade me into things, so I wouldn't get haggled into anything. Not worth my time right?

A ton of dealers are doing this now b/c of the lack of used cars,or they have a customer that wants that exact model of truck. But you may get a better rate, but you will be paying on it a lot longer then what your doing now.

You're thinking about it so they've done their job...

They might be able to keep your payment the same with a newer truck but it'll extend the loan. Think about it, they're not offering an upgrade out of the kindness of their hearts, they're doing it to make money off you. One way or another, you'll end up paying more if you trade up. Nothing costs nothing

    Except hookers and meth.

You buy the meth, the hookers tag along sniffing it for free.

It's lies. They told me the same thing. A new Taco for me would've been around $500 a month...

Yeah, a disease for every letter of the alphabet and a nice tingly feeling down south (and I don't mean in a good way)!

Dude, it's just marketing. Instead of waiting for customers to come on the lot, dealers are sending out these letters to previous customers and setting the bait, hoping you'll bite. :brianr:

I don't mind the extended note. Hell, I have over 4 years left anyway. I also wouldn't mind a better truck at the same price. I don't think it's possible.

If you really want to see what they have to say, go for it. It's a good way to kill an afternoon if you have nothing better to do. Personally, I wouldn't take on a 6 yr auto loan but to each his own.

Realistically, they'll show you maybe $17 or18,000 for your truck (optimistically) so you have $2,000 in equity to trade. The truck you want costs $28,000 and change plus tax, title, tags, options, etc so consider most of your $2k gone to cover that since you don't want to pay anything out of pocket. You might negotiate down to $26,500-$27,000 on the new Tacoma. Depending on your credit, lets assume 0% financing for 72 months (which I highly doubt you'll get since I believe Chevy was the only one to offer 0% for 72 months) but assume 0% for 72 months your new payment will be $370/month. Put a few points of interest and you're back to your $400/month. It is possible but not a great deal in my opinion, you're taking a hit on your truck, paying tax, title and tags again and taking on another 6 year loan. The truck you have is still a baby, enjoy it for many years to come!
