Both of my brothers, One joined the Army as a calvery scout, and the other joined the Navy as an aircraft mechanic. I am extremely proud of both of them. The Coat Guard is part of the Armed Forces, used to fall under the Dept of Transportation untilmwe cretaed Homeland Defense. But they are not the oldest branch of service, the Army is. When the service flags are displayed, they are always displayed oldest to youngest. The Army is first since we formed militias formally to fight in the Revolutionary War before the Constitution was ratified.

Here's a good bar bet for you all.

Name the 7 "Uniformed" Service of the United States. Most people will get the first 5.

Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, Coast Guard

    The others?

    US Publich Health Service (USPHS)

National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)
