Don't blow a gasket 'brother'. I was born and raised a muslim, but at age 22 I accepted there was no Allah and that Muhammad was not a prophet. To people who value scientific analysis and reason over blind faith and obedience to 1400 year old dogma.. my final conclusion is a triumph.

It's not about Islam, it's about all religions. They are equally fallacious and man-made. We don't need the 'wisdom' of an Arab merchant that lived 1400 years ago to live our lives in a decent and moral way.

I am glad you consider it a triumph and you should because now you are at peace with yourself and your beliefs... more power to you brother :). I really don't think you understood the point I was trying to make. I'm just pointing to the fact that America is an amazing country because of the many different cultures that make it up. You have freedoms that many countries do not allow including freedom of religion. And many people like yourself and the example I showed were born into a religion and gained enough knowledge to decide that the religion they were brought up in did not fit their life. In the end congrats for you to think free and decide on something that makes you happy. I think the original poster just wanted to see where everyone is coming from to get a better understanding of the amazing people that make up this forum. This post is not to bash religions but an appreciation of the many religions that people believe in and how a community like this can bring so many different people together.

Exactly. Most religions simply try to tell people that they should live/ act in a decent manner, and show respect towards others. People who take EVERY word in the Bible, Qur'an, or any other religious document seriously, are foolish. The world is not 6000 years old as the Bible would have you believe. This is a fact, and just one of many examples of fallacies that the Bible (for example) portrays.

I think America is a great country but it's on the decline. If you're a wealthy, white, male, christian then it's the best country in the world. Two of our most popular republican presidential candidates are christian dominionists who have said many times that they intend to get America back to biblical principals. America was not founded as a christian nation, it's in jeopardy of being taken over by the same religious thinking that our founders were fleeing from. If Rick Perry is elected president I guarantee you we will start a new war or wars with with one or more islamic countries. We'll claim it's a war on terror, but in the end it's Christians vs. Muslims, the same war they've been fighting for thousands of years over which sky-god is the real one. If and when we are brought to nuclear war it'll be in the name of religion. That's just one reason I'm not a fan of gods.

Junebug, im not white nor am I christian but I can say that I have a great paying job and livin the American dream. It's not in decline, we have just had bad leaders lead this country but at it's core NO country can compare to the US. Everyone is trying to be like us but they won't, right now we are in a slump but we will get back up. The American people have always gone through a lot of crap (Great Depression etc.) but in the end we always come back on top. Have faith June have faith ;).

It's not just a war for oil. Israel and Palestine aren't squabbling over oil. They're fighting over a piece of land that each side claims their respective holy books gave them divine rule over. They each think they're the chosen people to preside over the "Promised Land". They're each fucking nuts too and America is right there with them.
