Today I went to Toyota of Cerritos (California) because I was called by the salesperson I met with a few days ago, who stated Toyota has a "new" 6 months deferred payment plan.

I was interested in the plan and the total price, so I went. But, I didn't want to buy today. I just went because I was called by Eric B., the salesperson, to check out the plan.

So I went there, test drove a 2008, Prerunner, Access cab, 6cyl, auto, Off Road package.

The price on the sticker was $26,5XX. The sales guy asked me to sit to talk about the numbers. The total he came up with was roughly $28K with tax and license, etc.

I then said, the Toyota World folks (you guys) said I could buy the car for $500 over invoice. The guy said he'd be right back and two other suits from finance came in, intro'd themselves and said they couldn't go that low.

After some more talk, they said, it could be done. Invoice was supposedly $23,500 roughly, plus tax and other stuff. Total came out to be $26,500K.

They said, sign right here and we're all set. I told them to wait. I just came in to get the scoop on the 6 month deferred program and a price and not to buy right now.

That sent them into a state of unhappyness. The finance guys left and I never saw them again, and the sales guy said he had an appointment.

I was just left to sit. I guess that they assumed I was going to buy, when I came in to hear the info on the program and get a price.

Well, I just left. I will still buy, but I need to do my taxes first. I'm a fervent researcher on anything I buy and collect lots of info before I commit. Taxes in April determine what I get and I won't buy till then.

I feel badly that they seemed upset. But I never said I was going to buy when I first came in. I came in because of the call to listen to the program and get a total price.

Anyway, just expressing and wondering if $26K total is a good price on the Prerunner, V6, auto, offroad package, access cab.

Don't worry about a car salesman or his finance couterpart, they are souless creatures of the night and will take you for everything you are worth. Was that bitter ? I can never tell ?

    Access cab.

Everything was nice and friendly till I said, I'm just here because of the call and to get info.

Don't they realize I'm still going to buy. I live two blocks away, and like to do all my business locally.

They just think of the now. Sell now! Well, you have to look and get info before you buy.

yeah, i think that sounds like a good price...but honestly, there are SOOO many toyota dealerships out here, if you're in no big hurry, shop around and play them off one another, you can probably beat it somewhere else. however, i'm guessing that 6month deferred financing bit will probably expire pretty soon.

Yeah, it does sound good. I know it collects interest, but in the mean time, I can save more money, then pay a lump sum to shorten the time when the payment does start.

^So put off buying it for 6 months, save that money, and pay NO interest on that "deferred" amount.

This is the conservative way and the way that jibes with they way I was taught to handle money.

I originally told the sales guy that, then he phoned me today to tell me about the program.

I think that I'll stick to my original plan. Pay my taxes in april, figure finances, then buy the truck I want.

In the mean time, look and learn from the members here.

I've already learned so much that I don't think I'd ever know without the forum.

For instance, the headlight blackout, the tailgate hose clamp trick, what prices to pay, what accessories are best, etc, etc.

    Once again, thanks community members.

Maybe we can have a southern california alliance. Meet at Yard House, drink several dozen beers.?!?! Am I brilliant.

I got my dbl cab with the offroad package for a bit over 26k.... Regardless if you were gonna buy that day or not they still need to serve you with good customer service... Toyota just like other auto makers are very commited to good customer service....

I got mine from John Elway Crown in Ontario... If your intersted I can give you the name of the salesmen I got mine from!

Since it sounds like your in no big rush I'm sure you can get a good deal... My friends sister got her dbl cab trd tacoma for around 25k, just goes to show you a litttle patience can save you about a 1k

Your plan seems sound and very well controlled, if it goes as planned. When it comes to such a large purchase such as a truck, and it sounds like you have done your research, have a ballpark figure but don't be married to it. As TuRDTACO said he walked into a dealer an hour later was driving one home. Sometimes you have to pull the trigger, I have said this many times, you'll get your moneys worth regardless what you spend; save canadian prices-OUCH ! and to think we have one as a moderator, that's going to leave a mark !! ... I degress... the dealers are bleeding now, it's December, they want end of the year numbers, go in there with a broad sword and get what you want, leave the bodies !! :fenforcer:

If you want a good price with great service, go to the internet department of Quality Toyota in Corona. I bought mine from them.

All right let's all get a few things straight.
I am a car sales person Toyotas to be exact and I am not, I repeat, I am not a souless creature of the night.

    A. If you go into a dealership and have a chip on your shoulder the saleperson can sense this. Most buyers, like yourself, wear this like a badge of honor so the salesrep doesn't have to have a 6th sense. Even you can tell when someone is being an asshole on purpose. It is this shit type attitude that gets you the crap service you deserve. I have read so many stories about horrible experiences when buying a truck I am sick of it. And from what I have read it mostly stems from buyers. Belive it or not buyers are liars. More so than the saleperson.
The sales person wants to sell you the vehicle at a fair price and move on to the next sale. Headache free. So don't go into a dealership thinking they owe you something. They don't! They don't owe you a money losing deal. that's not why they are there. Yes, sometimes they do lose money to make a deal, but the harder you push...the less they want to do it for YOU.

    B. As far as ERdepts' situation. Dude you made it clear that you weren't buying that day. They have to move on. Did you want Eric B. to sit there hold your hand and wait until your tax refund check came in? You got your info, you got your price, the ball is in your court and you kept it. Move on.
Let's put it this way ERdept. If someone expected round the clock treatment for a cut finger while others in the ERdept needed help you would "let them sit". Especially if you got paid per case.

Bottom line is treat people like you want to be treated...even salespeople and the world and your sales experience will be a better place.

Remember these two things. You have the right to a good deal and the dealership has the right to make money.

And when you're ready come see me and I'll get ya $500 over all day. Maybe less if you leave the chip and badge behind. Why? Cause I'm just an average guy that knows this is a lot of money to be spent....cause i did it.

    Happy Holidays
