So I got a msr pocket rocket stove today and 2 msr iso pro fuel canisters (4 oz size).
Can someone enlighten me on fuels, should have I gotten the snopeak iso fuel or is the msr just fine.

Also If you guys and gals think I should have gotten the snopeak gigapower stove let me know. It was $10 more for igniter and same price for manual. I want a stove thats reliable in ALL conditions. I like that the snow peak is made in japan just like my 4runner. msr:korea

I have always been a day hiker and I have ventured further in the woods and Ive been staying the night so I need stuff that will be reliable for the years to come. Also it will be nice to make a warm meal on a long day hike in the winter or xc skiing trips.

I Just read the reviews on the web show that said I should have gotten the snow peak. Looks like ill be returning to rei tomorrow unless u all can convince me otherwise.

either one will work just fine. there both pretty much the same thing so i would pick the one that is lighter. i have used alot of msr pocket rockets and never had issues with them at all. and i really like msr customer service. they sent me free parts to fix my whisperlite. either way you cant go wrong.

    not sure yet....
Just wanted to ask the experts and see what you guys use at this price point.
    msr pocket rocket:
quality looks good small and compact
it only has 3 supports for the pan

    snow peak giga power:
gets better reviews in bad weather
    small an compact
has 4 supports for the pan

Ill probably get a pocket rocket used off ebay and a snow peak new from rei and test both of them out. Its always nice to have an extra layin around for a friend.

i agree with the having extras idea. If your worried about the 3 leg pot stand stability dont worrie. I dont like them tye of stoves due to the high center of gravity. they do put out some crazy heat. im running a alcohol stove in my pack now. much lighter and gets the job done. and elevation wont mess with how my stove runs

Thanks, good to know. I am sure either will be sufficent for what i use them for. I am usually between 7 k and 12k elevation here in NM so i am interested in how these stoves will work.

the lowest in nm is red bluff reservoir 2,842 and the highest is wheler 13,161. I believe nm is the only state that has all of the life climate zones. pretty crazy!!!
I live at 5,500ft and I can be at 10,600 within 30min (driving of course).

Ill never leave NM! It's great here. I have a few friends that now live here because they were just "passing through" and never left. Colorado is 3 hours away, the best colorado snow resorts are 4 hours away. Plenty of resorts in nm too! Its in the mid 90s in the summer way cooler in the mtns we have mild winters in the city with tons of snow in the mtns. What more could a guy want!!!
