Tuffy Tail Gate Protector

I was looking at the Tuffy bed storage lockbox and noticed that they sell a tailgate lock specific to the 05+ Tacoma. Looks like it would be better than the hose clamp mod...

Has anyone used this before? Suprised there wasn't interest.

 

Yeah I can see that, but you can get different bolt heads (stars, etc) to replace that for a buck. This just looks like the 1st one that is actualy made for our truck other than a simple hose clamp that shares a similar common head.

 

i carry allen wrenches in my thief bag...

i dont carry odd square head things...

oh and the hose clamp with the special wing head for the square is like $2 not $23

As for the hose clamp mod, out of curiosity I took a pair of pliers and twisted and it it popped right off. That is the only reason I was looking for options. If a $2 item will save my $500 tailgate, great....if it doesn't well then the extra $21 is worth it.

 

the thing is, a thief is going to try and grab the tailgate and lift it. if its got something stopping it they will look and see the clamp and move onto a easier target... they will not likely sit there and mess with it

 

Yeah for the most part, but a friend of mine with a F150 had his gate taken with the hose clamp mod on it. I guess it matters who the thief is and how determined they are. The casual thief will walk away.

 

gotta wonder if it was personal... or the vehicle was not parked in a public place
