My starter/solenoid went out today. Tried to start it, won't turn over. Just a really rapid clicking sound when I try to start it. Ugh. And I still don't know why I'm getting the mysterious P0171 code or the episodes of HORRIBLE throttle lag. By the time they figure out what all is wrong with this thing, I'll be in my 40's.

Battery seemed fine, headlights were bright and everything. We'll see though.

When the starter goes, it doesnt make any noise. Its just silent death. Sounds like it could be your alternator, because your starter is trying to work off a dead battery. Boost the truck and see how much voltage you have running from the alternator. It should be a solid 12V.

Usually when the starter starts to go, you can still start it for a week. It just has a hard time getting contact and a hammer can solve that temporarily. I carried a hammer in my back seat for two weeks before mine finally quit on me.

P0171 code is a "System too lean"

    Check:
    -MAF sensor
    -Air filter
    -Pre-cat 02 sensor
    -Vacuum lines
    -Exhaust leak

Bullshit. His plunger is stuck on the starter.
His headlights work, how could the battery be dead

Rebuild the starter..it costs like $20.
    I've done 3 of them.

Opps, I guess i missed the headlight part.

When i had to rebuild my starter i just replaced the contacts. I guess my plunger was fine because it wasnt making a clicking noise at all.

It $20 if you do it yourself, Toyota charges something like $100 to re-build.

Bullshit again, 55w headlights use 10.45 volts per one. 35w are the same but less amperage. They pull around 7 amps. And if the battery was dying, his headlights would be dim. He said there bright and function well, hence there is at least 10 volts charged on it. I'm 90% its his starter

I.understand you need a steady 12v to run the starter but I highly doubt his battery just dropped 2 volts only. Plus 1st gen tacoma starters are notorious for those symptons.

I started bondoing the holes on my 4wd fenders. Anybody interested in a full set of fender flares from a 01-04?

It was really easy , not hard at all . I did it 3 times in one day, I did the blue first, but did not look as good. then i for got to plug in the hazard /blinkers so I took it all apart. first time about 45 minutes . second ,half hour . 3rd I swear like 15 minutes.
