Nice truck! How much of a difference between the 4.10 gears and your current gears? Did you do it more for gas mileage or off-roading? Thanks

 

The 4.88's are awsome, went on a 1000k mile trip 18mpg but the truck was loaded. Runs alot better.

Getting some OME rear leafs, and some aluminum skid plates, 2M radio, sticking w/ the steelies for now, you can repair them with a heavy hammer, can't do that to an alloy! Still thinking about a tray/flatbed set up.

I just put some OME front coils on with Bilstein 5100s and love the setup so far. I would love to get the rear springs but I am not sure how they will handle being loaded down.

 

I though I saw that truck before. Then I remembered it was at Overland Expo in AZ last year.

 

cool. have you thought about wheelers offroad steelies? they seem less vulnerable than the stock steelies and i think they can be made into bead locks

are you running spacers to fit 285s on the stock steelies?

Which 2m are you planning on getting?

I like the yeasu ft60r for a HT and FT-7900. they are dual band 2m and 70cm.

I like the flexibility of dual band for not much more money.

the OME dakar leafs are expedition springs. they are meant for the heavy loads of expedition vehicles. Of most of the aftermarket springs the OME Dakars are the beefiest

 

Still figuring out the radios, no spacers and so I get some rubbing I now have two set of the factory alloys so I might pc them black and see if I like em. KJ6QPR

When I got my mag a couple weeks ago your article was the first one for me to read. Your build is great trying to keep weight in mind. Your tires in the article look to be KM2' 255/85/16's. I think the article says 285/55/16's. Keep with the toyota wheels dont put some aftermarket crap on, aluminum toyota would be better due to less likely to bend.

Pretty much why I ended up with FJ-80 wheels powdercoated black. They are extrememly strong wheels.

 

Congrats on the mag write up, I dig your truck. I've been watching for some time now. Hopefully I'll see it in person some time.
