Just wondering if anybody has Line-X'd a Second Gen yet. Did a quick search and i didn't see anybody do their bed. I'm curious as to if you can remove most of the plastic bed liner, but still retain the bed rail system and bed outlet. Any info or pics would be great!

    It's not a plastic bed-liner!

The bed is a composite material (mainly plastics) you can paint it with a Line-X or similar some have done it, don't have any links though

Why would you want to? I haven't read anything bad about the composite bed....

The only reason i would do it, is for sound reduction and added durability.

I have a bed mat. Nothing slides around in my bed. If it will, I tie it down.

I was thinking it wouldn't be a bad idea as i feel that water can get under the bed liner and eventually start to rust. I know the previous generations of toyota trucks, especially Tacoma's have have rust issues. I know that those were mainly frame rust, but i think it wouldn't be too bad to be on the safe side. Looking at the way everything is in the bed, it seems that it might not be too hard to pull everything out, reattach the bed rails, side pockets, etc. and then line-x the bed. IMO, i think the line-x finish looks much better that a factory bed liner. I am just wondering about this and was wanting to see if any other members have done this yet.

I am not understanding why it is not a liner. Isn't it bolted to the bed?

If you try "to take it out" then there will be nothing there.

That is just very hard to believe. I can't believe that there is no metal beneath the composite material aside from the frame. Is that what you are saying?

Well i just did a quick search on 'composite bed' and it seems that the the bed is entirely composite. Just really hard to believe and i've never heard of that in a truck before. Thanks for the help guys!

LOL. all composite so there's no need to worry about rust. now if things are sliding around, most guys love their bed mats for added traction when there are loads back there. i wish this was done to the gen1 tacos. i have a bed rug that's all ripped and i'm debating about getting a plastic liner or saving for line-x xtra.
