5 lug isn't a good route to go if you plan on lifting. There are a few lifts out there but they're either pretty shitty or LT. And if you lift a 5 lug 3" you've got a stock prerunner pretty much but with the wrong gearing. I bought a 5 lug because it was the right price but if you have the option to buy a prerunner or 4x4 I would do that.

well i like the look of the lifted tacoma, but don't want a V6 or 4x4 due to price and gas mileage, so i'm kind of at a loss of what i should do, that is why i''m asking questions. Thanks to those who respond promptly and politely :)

Seeing the third gen section forced me to get a Ford...
    then get a 4cyl prerunner...problem solved.

looks is what i'm interested in, not planning on doing any offroading, i just like the looks of a lifted tacoma, just don't want to pay for a V6 or 4x4 and the gas mileage is worse on those

Hopefully I "CAN" get a 4 cyl prerunner. I was just thinking that maybe it would be a little cheaper to buy the base and just put a lift on it, but maybe not.

IMO, the 5 lug Access Cab looks better because it doesn't have fender flares. That's why I got one.

Total Chaos makes an UCA kit if you don't want a spacer lift but it is defintely true that 6 lug trucks have more lift possiblities.
