Ok guys I've had it with UPS! The last 4-5 general transactions I've had with them have been below satisfactory. Everything from losing packages, delays, damage, etc.. Its getting old.

But before I go and file a claim or complaint, I wanted opinions on whose at fault here.

I recently purchased a spare grille to attempt the satoshi mod for my truck from a recommended vendor who has very good rep(I am not going to name names) Do you believe his packaging was adequate? Or is UPS to blame for how the package was delivered.

A signature was not required and the package was left at my doorstep. I DID NOT open or attempt to tamper with it. This is how I received it. I'm assuming tabs are either snapped off or broken, hence the reason I decided not to open it.

BTW I also placed a call with the head UPS center in town where all deliveries come out of to figure out who delivered it, but they were closed.

Did that grille come from partsgeek? Because when my package came in from them, it was already opened and was barley being held open by a piece of tape.

Short of being packed to UPS' standards, it was likely the shippers' fault. But the reality you may still have a chance to take it up against UPS.

I use FedEx very often and consistently they have done better by me than UPS...

i can't tell you much by the packing its self to be honest because the box it not open, but for a grill id say as long as there is at least 3-6 inches around the grill the packing was probably sufficient and it was most likely ups problem....well i mean it obviously was because they destroyed the packaging.

and i know there was no signature requested but i honesty hate the signature option it drive me nuts it complicates every thing (i work for FedEx).

if you want a signature and you know your not going to be home you can ship through fedex and do a "hold at location" and they will either ship the package to a local fedex office (formally kinkos) or you can call 1-800-gofedex and have them reroute it and they will hold the package for you for 5 days

i know that might not help if your buying from a site that already has a deal worked out with shipping but if they only shit ups might wana check with a local ups store to see if they have the same "hold at location" deal like fedex

    hope that helps a bit

o ya if the grill is damaged in anyway open a claim asap the longer you wait the less of a change you'll get at getting anything for the grill

hope you get it figured out OP! and hope the grill is ok.

but everything we have got the UPS has shipped there has never been a prob with the box. same with FedEx. idk why. maybe it’s just the guys delivering/handling it that just don’t care. i know the guy the delivers to us both ups and fedex tend to leave in on the back porch if it is raining.

I am a UPS driver and I am not going to say it wasnt UPS fault but there should have been more packing in the box than that.A box should not be able to be crushed in like that if it was packed tightly around your item.If your item is damaged file a claim with UPS..all they can do is deny it if they deem it insufficient packing. Then you will have to take it up with the shipper

It looks like that flap that is supposed to go on top, on the left side in the photo, isn't.

I buy almost everything online and never have packages show up crushed. Literally receive a hundred packages a year or so and never see that.

When you ship something you can't use a giant box without packing it most of the way full, or that would seemingly happen. They are liberal with tape at this website, and not liberal with the styrofoam peanuts it appears.

Like SB11Tacoma I also used to work at UPS, I was never a driver though. There are several levels to the hierarchy of UPS and the lowest one is what I did; unloading the trucks for sort when they got to the station. We were expected to unload an insane amount of packages per minute, worked in inhumane heat and filth, and were not allowed to take a bathroom or drink break. We were told if we left the truck to use the restroom that the whole line would stop and if that was the case we were easily replaceable. It got to the point that most of us would unload a truck to the point where we had left a wall and would then relieve ourselves in the back of the truck behind it.

You can understand the dilemma of a UPS unloader. We realize that we are unloading people's personal items and it could be anything from fine crystal to a box full of marshmallows. The problem is that when you are treated like an animal long enough, you forget about the importance of personal belongings and become part of the machine that shoves, crams, throws, climbs over, stands on, and relieves themselves on what has just become a sea of impersonal packages.

I try to never have anything shipped UPS. FedEX is usually easier, cheaper, cleaner, and more reliable for me to use. They NEVER leave anything at my front door where someone can drive by and just take it. They always leave a note or put it behind our fence. I have also never had a package come in crushed on FedEX. I wonder if they have less disgruntled unloaders?

File a claim if you are willing to wait and fight. I don't fault the shipper in this scenarion, but I am obviously biased.

File a claim with UPS, it is up to them to prove the suppliers poor packaging was the problem. Looking at the carton, UPS will pay up no problem.

BTW, I hate UPS too, if I have a choice I always request snail mail or FedEx.

Thanks for all the insight guys. I think what I'll do this morning is call the shipper and voice my concern. I'm hoping they will take care of the issue because frankly I don't have the time.

I will also place a small call with UPS. Thanks again for your inputs.

Shipper left too much dead space in the box. If the box was packed correctly it wouldn't have been crushed.

Shippers fault. I get stuff left at my porch every time. No biggie. Probably not enough stuffing and a bad tape job.

What do you want from them? Are you saying that you still have not opened the package and don't plan to? If nothing is broken or lost then do you believe you are owed something?

The smaller box with the FedEx shipping label on it was most likely not the UPS shipped one :)
