Hey everyone, ive read, and experienced, that *most* of the time you cant switch to 4hi while your not moving?

mine let me about 3 out of 7 tries, and this worries me because I usually use 2hi till i get stuck then go to 4hi to get unstuck (in snow)

the fact I live on an acreage in the prairies and frequently wake up to 4 foot drifts surrounding my vehicle worries me :canada:

why does it do this? my old 98 blazer would click twice then lock in EVERYTIME moving or not, and it was nice.

so anyone have any suggestions or input? besides leaving it in 4hi all the time

Just keep using it and it'll lock easier and easier.

Mine will lock damn near every time now if I'm not moving. If it doesn't it just takes a few inches for it to engage.

Same goes for my Rear Locker. That engages no matter what I'm doing now.

Even after you turn it into H4, it may not 'click in' until your tires rotate a bit. I also suggest if there is snow falling the night before, you engage the 4WD then and not wait to get stuck in it the next day. As said above, the more you use it... the happier the truck is!

Just reverse put the truck in gear or reverse if you are in park. I have good luck jumping to neutral when this happens. It isn't a big worry, just turn the knob and start doing your thing, it will lock in. The more you use it the less it will happen...

    That's what she said :p

If I put the truck in neutral, click it in 4Hi, if it doesnt' engage right away then when I put it in either D or R, it'll lock in.

    This.

I can go from 4Hi>4Lo and then sometimes to Diff lock without moving an inch.

Because for most people an open diff is perfectly adequate. I've got 2 open diffs and can get anywhere I need to go.

Mine will go into 4hi from 2wd easily. It's 4hi to 4lo that's touchy. I have to be stopped. Sometimes I have to bump forward to get it to go 4lo.
Keep using it, It'll engage easier.

You just need to take the load off the drive train, this isn't that big of a deal. Just be thankful you don't have to get out to lock in hubs... Although I miss those days....
