You saw a shirt for $97. You didn’t have the cash, so you borrowed $50 from your mum and $50 from your dad = $100. You bought the shirt, and had $3 change. You gave your dad $1 and your mum $1 and kept the other $1 for yourself. Now you owe your mum $49 and your dad $49. 49+49 = 98 + your $1 = 99. Where is the missing $1? THIS HAS BEEN IN MY MIND ALL DAY.

You still owe them $50 each since that is what you borrowed. Nice trick though :D

once you've paid them $1 each, you owe them $49 more. so once you pay them the $49 + $49 + $2 already paid, it still comes out to $100. the reason you come up short $1 the way the riddle words it, is because you are mixing money you have plus the money you owe. money owed and money paid will add up to the correct ammount. what money is in your pocket ($1) has no impact on the rest of the equation. it's like saying you have $5000 in a bank acount, and wondering why the equation is coming out saying you overpaid them $4900.

    100-2= 98
    98 + the 1 you have is 99
    99/2 = 49.5

Therefore there is no missing $1
