TACO new buyer advise!

Hey guys... Im in the market of buying a new truck i have a tahoe with over 200k and driving around 55 miles a day to school gas is beginning to kill me at around 100$ a week. Ive seen a truck im really interested looks stock (base model) 4 door 2006 with 89k for 15900 obo, i will try to work him down but is this example a good or bad idea with all the miles? Also as far as mpg what am i gonna be looking at? I refuse to buy a car. so what you say on giving me some insight so i dont make the wrong choice? I know the taco engine is bullet proof and ive noticed first hand the value stays high. I do plan on putting it on 33's in the future not too worried about the difference of 1-3 loss in mpg.

 

89K miles is nothing for these trucks... It'll run perfectly to well over 200K. and ur not gonna get very good gas mileage with this truck either... lol i agree with pogiboy, if ur only buying it for gas milage reasons you might wanna think again. Or get the 4 banger?

 

I think the taco is going to get better mileage than a tahoe.

 

You might be getting 15 mpg with the tahoe, the tacoma will give you 17mpg. Not worth it. Run your Tahoe till the wheels fall off and then look for a Tacoma.

i got the V6 Access Cab TRD Sport, 3" Toytec Lift, 285/70/17 (essentially a 33")
the worst ive gotten is 14.7, best is mid 16s....(Stock was avg 18) it usualy averages in the low 15s due to the Banks Exhaust that i HATE hearing whenever possible... so just imagine you buy it and put 33s on it........ youll probably be even with the gas mileage scenario.. best bet, soak up all the information you get on what would be cost effective.. and STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE if you do purchase one!!! if you dont, your gas mileage will be the last thing youre worried about!!!! ......

For a reference point...went from a 07 Ram 1500ST V6, 6speed manual, to a NEW '11 Taco Access cab, V6, 6 speed 4x4 and gas milage is about the same at 18-20 for mixed use.

The dodge had a bigger tank and another 100 range. To replace a worn out vehicle the swap might be worth it...why don't you look at new single cab, 4 banger, 2wd for low cost, reliability and good gas milage?

 

Tacoma gas mileage is pathetic - end of story.

I appreciate all of the replies guys.. Well gas is just a tiny reason it takes me about 115 to fill my truck up. I assume there is a difference of atleast 11 gallon difference in tank size as well as a significant difference in weight difference. Also I'm driving a 95 tahoe with 202k on the clock being 16 years old withthat many miles I'm guessing I'm getting under 10 mpg so even 16 mpg would be an improvement. Also this is still my first car so having it 6 years I want something new. I'm not a hippie looking for 40 mpg haha I'm just trying to get a 4 door truck with a bit of an improvement. From what ive heard is an intake/ throttle spacer with a level kit and 33s should still keep me around 17-18ish just trying to see if my friend is on the money or full of bs

If it books for what they're asking then i say go for it. You should be able to get 20mpg on the highway with a stock 4.0 liter. I get about 16-17 around town. 89,000 is nothin if it's been taken care of. Good luck

 

Unless you need a truck, I'd do like I did in college. Traded in my truck for a 4cyl Mazda 3. Got around 32MPG. That was 5 years ago. You can get a Ford Fiesta and hit 40+.

When you finish college, get your truck.
