Whats up guys, I recently smashed my Frontier into a boulder in Anza borrego desert California driving it like I stole it. I just found out today that it's a total loss. As such, I'm back in the market to get a new truck!! Had my eye on the taco for sometime now and would like to know your thoughts on the truck. Any issues/problems? I'd also like to know what axle the 2nd taco's come w/. Maybe there is a thread that provides that info already... gear ratios and axle types for the pre-runner versions. I loved my Frontier, and clubfrontier.org (was a member for 2 years) is gonna hate me for switching! But I think the two trucks are equal, just different.
Which one do you recommend? I'm not after 4x4, I want a mid travel kit for the truck and a locker. The TRD off road package is the one that comes w/ the locker right?? Is the locker a joke or does it actually hold up and work? Is it air operated or electronic (i'm guessing electronic).
Thanks a bunch guys!!! Look forward to getting to know you
    Benjamin

    Welcome to TW!

The TRD Off Road comes with an e locker, get the off road. You'll love the locker. I'm on Club Frontier as well.

What year Frontier you got? Any mods? I think its pretty awesome that the Frontiers can do the Titan swaps. I've always thought the Titan was a pretty respectable rig, I just liked my Taco better :)

"nazi zombie" ahaha awesome i was just playing that game.

My Frontier was a 2007 XE, 17 aluminum MB motoring wheels w/ NITTO terra grappler 265/70 tires. Flowmaster exhaust, intake, timing advance, 2"spacer lift. Alpine audio w/ JL sub. I'm keeping the audio and tires for the Taco. GOnna sell the wheels on Clubfrontier.org... funny that you mention the titan swap cause I was about to do it!

Welcome to TW! We've got a few a members here that would agree about the trucks being the same, but different. I know some people replace the e-locker with other versions, but I've never heard of problems with factory electronic one. I'd leave that alone.

I don't care what edmunds.com says, the Taco is much nicer and more fun.

Damn Nissan's, always finding ways to leave you astonished at the dealer. ;) (or in a rock lolol)

I have run against a few Nissans off road. They are great at getting in the way. The Tacoma is a much better platform for off roading.

09 tacos don't come with the locker do they? I thought they use the braking system to redistribute the power versus locking the axle.

That's the Auto LSD that is equipped on TRD Sports. The TRD Offroad still has a mechanical locker...

Tacoma is an awesome truck and you will love it. 3 rules to follow though:

    1. Get the V6
    2. If you get speedway blue as a color, do NOT black the headlights, looks stupid
    3. Do NOT get the westin bumper guard. Looks like the truck is sticking a HUGE tounge out

    Otherwise, enjoy =)

So, you totaled your Frontier to get a Tacoma.

You know, there's other ways to get rid of a vehicle, like trading it in or selling it privately. ;)

Welcome to TW. I'm sure you'll be happy with a Tacoma.

Since you already owned a Frontier, you know what the Tacoma's biggest competitor is like. Go and take a Tacoma out for a test drive (maybe even see if they'll let you have it for a weekend...in these times I'm sure that they'll do something little like that if it means a sale) and see how it compares to the Frontier.

Many people don't have the amount of time behind the wheel of the Frontier like you do, so I feel that a good weekend with the truck will let you know which one you should buy--Tacoma or Frontier.

    Welcome to TW!

I tested both Fronties and Tacoma, i liked the Tacoma a lot better, i think the old Frontier was better built than the new ones, but thats my opinion, go for the Tacoma, you wont regret it
