Did my first ever 10 mile run yesterday. Got another 2-3 weeks of running in preparation for a half-marathon before I hit the weights again. Tough Mudder is a month after the half and I need to get my strength back for that one.

Happy to be walking somewhat normal today but I'm kinda dreading how I'll feel when I wake up tomorrow. That second day after a workout is always the worst for me.

Sounds like you're right on track for the half. Used to be into running and triathlon before I got more serious about weightlifting.

I would always ease off training about 5-7 days out from the race and eat tons of carbs 2-3 days out to maximize my stored glycogen for the event.

My best time for the half is 1:38:40, but I was probably 25 lbs lighter then...

Nothing like running for getting lean!

    Good luck MJP!

It's a mix of whey concentrate, whey isolate, egg albumin, milk isolate, and whey hydrolysate giving a well rounded release of protein.

25g protein, 5g carbs, 3g fat per scoop.

I just wondered if I'm eating every 2.5-3 hours anyway, would the ISO 100 last long enough till my next meal. That way I wouldn't need to have 3 different kinds of protein on my kitchen counter!

Damn that's quick! My only goal is to finish and be able to walk the next day.

I'd always been more a lifter than a runner and only recently got into doing any kind of distance. I hated running until I picked up a pair of Merrell barefoot shoes earlier this year. Changed my form completely and I actually enjoy running now.

Been training exclusively in the barefoot shoes and will run the half in them. They also work great for the mud runs since they're so light and drain water faster than a garden hose can fill 'em.

I'm going to look for a short triathlon to get my feet wet next year.

You're doing a full? How'd the half go for you?

    Hope you heal quick!

yup... doing a full. heading out to DC to run the USMC marathon. aside from the running 26.2 miles part....should be a great time.

the half went well. my injury prevented from wearing my running shoes...hurt too bad. had to run in my vibram five fingers, which i had never ran more than a mile in before. it was not fun... i'm 205 lbs... i need some cushion under my feet.

my wife and i stuck together and finished in 1 hour 56 min... which was pretty good because we started towards the back of the crowd. after running the first 30 min we had not even gone 3 miles... i was quite mad... but it turned out fine.

No shit, I just picked up a pair of Vibram KomodoSports, and love lifting in them! Haven't tried running in them yet though, I'll have to give it a shot.

haha, I remember doing that... weaving through the crowd to try to get some open space to break through the madness. Very frustrating!!

been a while since i have been in this thread but heres some of my latest progress. i had been the heaviest/leanest ever about 218 and im guessing 15%ish bodyfat. but two weeks ago the shoulder gave and i have tendonitis in the right one, so its been time off work and rehab. ive been able to maintain most of my mass which surprised me cause i have had no heavy lifting or really no lifting in over two weeks. im slowly getting back into the gym and hopefully in a few weeks will be fully recovered. these were taken at the end of aug.

i would like to be around 225 and around 12% as an everyday walk around weight.

I hear ya, I was out for a few months when I dislocated my shoulder and put it back in myself a few years back. Broke 2 of the 3 ligaments that keep the shoulder in place, along with a piece of my shoulder blade bone.

The surgeon sewed it back up and now my shoulder's stronger than ever!! :D

Take the time to let it heal proper, don't let it become a chronic injury.

LOL, if they were, I wouldn't be sitting here!! They were brothers though, about a year old.

That was taken in Zimbabwe, Africa a couple of years ago. Had a blast there.

A few minutes after that photo was taken, I got to watch them stalk and take down a baby water buffalo from a herd that was wandering through. They had it pinned down until its mother rammed one of them in the face and knocked out his tooth. I've got another picture of him bleeding from where his tooth was a minute before!!
