scratch and sandpaper help

I had pretty deep scratch on my passenger door and a nic on hood where it was down to the metal. I used the touch up paint waited 32 hours and I just sanded it down and it looks pretty good. I was getting ready to apply the top coat when I looked down and saw a spot that is next to the areas I fixed that looks a lot lighter like it was damaged. It is very obvious! did I do something wrong? anyone have any idea how to fix this?

 

after you sand it you have to apply rubbing compound, polish, and wax to bring to color back and protect it. you can either buff them on or do it by hand with a applicator pad.

 

So there is nothing majorly wrong? I guess I was just surprised to see this located next to where the scratch was. how long after I apply the top coat apply the rubbing compound and polish?

 

Thanks for the help I think i am now in for a major repair. Pretty sure that color difference is because I went through the clear coat

 

i would say wait about 3 days, then sand it down with 2000 grit to even the paint out. then apply the compound, polish, and wax. you might have cut through all of your clear coat. do u have a picture of what it looks like?

 

I am going to try and get some pics tomorrow. the paint shop has some nice photos of it, I was to ashamed to take a pic of it.
