Generally the bigger Ducs get the dry clutch (998, 999, 1098, 1198) and the smaller ones get wet clutches (848, 749, 796 Hypermotard, smaller monsters)

    EDIT: damn, too slow

I MUCH prefer the dry clutch on my 848 to other Ducs I have had with dry. Reason number one, and by a long shot, is I don't have to explain to everyone that the "clack, clack, clack" sound they emit is not a rod knocking or that my engine about to grenade....then having to follow-up on all the questions on why Ducati uses a dry clutch after I tell them the noise is supposed to be there.

A secondary reason, is the wet clutch pull is very easy in comparison to the dry. Particularly stop and go situations. The 848 still has a heavier pull than the Asian counter parts, but noticably easier than the dry clutch.

Duc is slowly going away from it by the way, probably the next gen superbike will only have it on a special version, most everything regardless of displacement will have a wet clutch in the next few years.

Love those 848's. Red is the only way to go with a Duc tho ;)

Nice, I think I'll be handing down my 636 to the wife and getting either a new Daytona 675R, or possibly a Duc 848

I ride a '10 1198 in red. I kind of wanted the white, but I'm glad I went red. I was told that my first Duc should be red. :D

The dry clutch is no big deal; works fine. As posted, less oil drag vs. the wet clutch, and no metal particles in the oil either. I've got 9000 fairly hard-ridden miles on mine, and have had no problems with the clutch. It is pretty loud at stoplights in neutral, and some people think your bike is broken. ;)

The tall gearing in 1st does mean that you have to slip the clutch more than other bikes I've ridden to get going from a stop, but there's so much torque that you don't have to slip it too long. Hopefully the 848 is geared a little shorter.

Edit: I posted my pics at posts # 720-722.

Ducati's are the Ferrari's of motorcycles...... yes I ride any color if it were mine.but red takes the cake. As for the people that would think your bike is broken due to the sound they don't know anything about bikes, if they own a bike that requires a clutch to operate they should trade it in for a Vespa........:D:D Not to sound harsh btw....
