Does as Double Cab, Standard Tranny, 6ft Box, 4x4,Exist?

Hi everyone,
I'm in the market for my first Taco. I'm totally frustrated with the lack of choice of options in Canada and heard in the US it was different.

My 3 main criteria are:

Double Cab, Standard Transmission and 6ft long box, 4x4

In Canada this combo does not exist, I can only get a double cab, long box in Auto. This totally sucks as I absolutely need a double cab and a long box. Standard tranny would be perfect for me.

Does this combo exist in the U.S? I was lead to believe it did, although it is rare.

I understand the concept of longer overall truck length equals poorer off road performance, but off road is not my priority. Functionality is. But I really really really want a manual tranny.

I will be looking for a used 2006-2009

Please help me get to the bottom of this. The taco is the perfect truck for me except I can't get the manual tranny in the body style/length I need.

No stick in long bed. (6th) stupid it doesn't

 

Everything I have ever read says no OFF ROAD package on the DCLB and no stick shift either.

Read around a little more on this site and maybe you will change your mind on the manual trans. Auto actually gets better MPG and has proven to be more reliable in my opinion. Lots of clutch issues with the six speed manual, supposedly they are fixed with the new trucks, but there is a good chance you will have to have trans or clutch work done if you buy a used six speed like I did. So far I have needed a throwout bearing at 45K miles, and the syncros are definitely less than perfect. The 2007 and up are supposed to have better syncros.

 

I wish they did or that's what I would have... but my cars a stick so had to settle for the auto cause I needed 4 doors and a 6ft bed... Maybe one day they will make one... Any one done a auto to manual conversion yet?!

 

buy a used one with an auto, do a swap. no big deal.

Get a short bed with a bed extender.

 

No it doesn't exist or I would have it. This is one of the wishes I wrote down in the "what should Toyota have done different" thread. Went with the short bed because I wasn't getting an auto again.

 

i wish you could get double cab longbed in stick i dont see why they dont offer it

 

St.Albert to be more exact, but I figure not many people will know where that is.

 

A few years back I called a dealer ship in Montana, as I was inquiring about importing one just to get the manual tranny, Double cab, longbed. He told me they exist but rare, I'm wasn't convinced, but kept holding out and hoping it did exist. Its like chasing a fricking unicorn.

Even on the Toyota USA website, you can't build it with these specs, it forces you to change to auto. Sucks!!!!

If I could get the manual tranny, it would be perfect. I would make the effort to ship it and import it etc....

I just can't bare to lay out all that cash and end up with an auto. I've driven auto's all my life and swore that my next vehicle would be manual.

I feel so much more connected or a part of a vehicle I'm driving if its manual tranny.

 

I wish I had the knowledge, money and time to get that done. If I did, I'd probably put a diesel hilux engine under the hood while I was at it.

 

The first gen double cabs never came with a manual trans. They were all automatic and all short bed (5ft). A buddy claims to know a guy who bought a brand new one special order with a 5 speed from the dealership in town. He supposedly went in there and told them to build it for him and he'd pay the extra cost, he had to ask multiple times and kinda be a dick about it is how the story goes. No one has ever produced this truck for my inspection so not sure I believe it. If you think about it, there shouldn't be anything preventing them from bolting that combo together in the factory, so it's possible. But I don't see a mulit billion dollar corporation saying "yes sir, just for you".

 

Ask your dealer sometimes they are regional options. It took me forever to find my AC v6 6spd TRD prerunner.

 

the 6 speed is not very well designed do some research on them. If your set on a manual double cab and a 6 foot box I would recommend going to another brand.

 

If you could live with the short bed, you can find those. I have one

 

If you have driven Auto's all your life, why the fuss over continuing the trend with another automatic vehicle? The A750E Automatic transmission is very well designed and works very well. The manual tranny is a burden and a step backwards IMO. There was an announcement a while ago by Toyota that in the future there will be even less manual transmission options in their vehicles.

 

do you really need a double cab though? if not just get an access cab with the 6ft bed like i did, only with the V6 i have the 2.7 I4 and 5 speed combo, did not need the extra power for anything, i know you can get the 6 speed in that setup
