Access cab rear seat removal and sleep bed installation

Hey all. So this might have already been asked, but is there a way to remove the back seats in a 2011 access cab, so that you just have direct access to the toolbox, also has anyone built a bed to fit the inside of the access cab? I'm thinking of building one to fit inside until i have the money for a bestop.

Dunno about the first part, I personally just leave the seats folded forward all the time... Um elaborate on the second part? I don't understand what you are asking...

 

yeah im confused! cause unless you're like 3' tall theres not much room to sleep back there

 

So for the first part. I have the chairs that are hinged in the back and i never have anyone sitting in the back so i was wondering if there's a semi-painless way to remove them. For the second part, i wanted to build some sort of sleeping platform. I was initially planning on making a big sleeping platform that spans diagonally across the cab since that distance is exactly 6 feet, but it requires way too much dimensioning and wouldn't be very compact, so i want to make something that fits in the back with the front chairs slid all the way forward. It creates a sleeping area roughly 3'x4.5'. Its not the most comfortable arrangement, but its better than sleeping in the bed without any protection from the elements.

 

As stated above ... unless you are vertically challenged there is not a hell of a lot of room ....

 

Couldnt you put the seats up, doesnt look too bad.

 

Just sleep in the bed and throw a tarp over the top. It'll work alot better than the back seat of an access cab. hell you'd sleep better laying back the passenger seat and sleeping there.

 

It lifts right out .... quick and easy ... no fasteners .... with the seats "up" you would lose width

 

You can do what I did and buy a tarp and lay it over your bed it takes 1 min to lay it out and tie it down

Or you can buy a tonneau cover then use an air mattress for sleeping. Its a little expensive but better than a tarp.

 

thanks for the replies guys. that picture of the AC with the platform in the back is similar to what i thinking of. I'm 6 foot, and i measured the cab to be 4.5 feet wide, but if i fold down the front passenger seat, i could probably bend my knees and sleep facing the back wall, I think it would work out alright cuz i don't move around much when i sleep. The tarp idea sounds alright, but im gunna spend the night in my truck out in Barstow in December, so it might be too cold for that.

 

I could be mistaken but I'm pretty sure his platform is for storage, not sleeping. It's something to keep in mind.

I'm about your size and I can't even imagine sleeping in the cab.

 

being only 5" 4.... i like the idea of the sleeping platform... i dont have an access cab though. i fit fine with my knees bent in the back of a double cab. way better then sleeping in the bed... nice idea though. i like it.

and i like tha platform idea! Yes we know there is no room back there but if you really wanna sleep back there i like what Oat has done! add a little padding and thats probably as good as ur gettin

 

The more i look at that picture, the more it makes me want to make one that will fit with the seats slid all the way back and unfold to create a larger surface when the seats are slid forward. Kinda like those tables at restaurants that can get bigger to accomodate more people. I'll make it hinged in the middle so i can access the toolboxes on either side without having to remove the whole thing.

 

You could extend that storage setup when both seats are folded down, then build a platform that goes atop both the seats, but not the center console. You'll end up with a U shaped sleeping platform that could be hinged to fold back when not in use. With enough creativity, you can do anything.

 

I tried sleeping in the back of my double cab once and it sucked balls and im 5'8". probably would have been better laying the front passenger seat back and sleeping on that

 

I've slept in the back of my AC and I'm 6'1". It wasn't bad actually. Biggest piss off is not being able to stretch your legs which start to kind of cramp up. Not a huge deal though.

Hardest thing is trying to close the doors properly after you get in.
