sorry to hear this. this happened to my father-inlaws '90 toyota pickup a few months back in oakland. i ordered him up a new cat from http://www.hottexhaust.com/ which sells CA approved magnaflow cats. they have really good pricing and shipping was quick.

in our case, the bastard chopped off the o2 sensor as well. i ordered up a denso sensor and realized that it's not a threaded in sensor, but a bolt-on sensor onto a "toyota" specific flanged.

    Haha i know

Near Noriega and 19th ish, few streets over from there. Seems like a quiet enough area, plenty of nicer cars around. But i dont know it very well either.

I didn't read the full thread, but has anyone tried one of those Cat Clamps. Not cheap at $320 for the Maxx and bolt cutters could easily snip off those 8 loops of cables.

Mine was boosted on Oakland Ave last week. Worst part, my truck is registered in Virginia, and you can't legally get a 48-state cat shipped to CA...I etched my VIN and phone # into both sides for the police report, if it happens again. At least the bloods were kind enough to use wrenches to unbolt it rather than torch/saw it off. So a local NAPA ordered me the direct fit part next day, $315 later and I'm back, good to go.

Apparently the new ones aren't worth nearly as much though? And neither are the CA legal cats better at cleaning exhaust, they are just more expensive because the state makes manufacturers guarantee a 5 year warranty, so they charge more. Smog my ass...

After much searching over the past couple weeks, I am proud to say I finally found your cat!!! He's over on I-80 near the big parking lot! I think everything is there in one piece.

Damn that sucks! it happened to my son in laws 02 right in their driveway. He took it to the stealership and got bent over for $1500. Wish he would have shopped around at least, but I try to keep out of their bussiness. I would have probably reported it to police, not sure if it would do any good, but maybe they would be more on watch for these thefts?

I have not gotten a new one yet. Kind of afraid its just going to get ripped off too. Best price I have been able to find so far is around 250 installed.

I tried reporting it to the police but they didn't really care unless i saw it happen and could give them info on the guy.

Honestly, $250 installed is as good as you'll find, ESP in California. Mine was pinched last month and I paid $316 for a new cat and installed myself. Just 4 bolts, a new gasket on each side (cat's don't come with gaskets), and a new rubber hanger.

Go ahead an etch your VIN into the heat shield, maybe a phone # too if your hands aren't tired yet :D

sorry to hear man. Contrary to man o war's idiotic insinuations, it's not your fault that your cat was stolen because you left your truck un-attended in a decent area to get nookie.

Found a cat for cheap-ish finally. Went to a local O'Rileys and they had a magnaflow cat for $189, and it was a direct fit replacement. Not sure why it was so cheap there, but I cant complain!

Well, skids don't cover enough to keep them getting to the cats, at least Bud Builts don't. Dang, and that was a big reason I got them. But I think I can add some steel mesh to the frame and skids to block access and deter them a bit.
