good luck with it man. I dont think most jobs will only cost $250 bucks but hopefully you'll find a good deal. Did yours collapse already? I cant remember, if they have then just getting them reinforced wont be too much i wouldnt think. Its just a matter of getting a good person to weld who can get in there. Ill be testing out the welds this weekend. Ill put some rustoleum on it tomorrow sometime. I might just go do it right now since im not doing anything, hopefully its dried up some now.

Just Rustoleumed the crap out of it, looks way better now. Ill take a pic tomorrow of it sprayed. I also did my LCA and my crossmember, now you cant see all the rock rash, haha. Looks like is brand new! I made sure I got every possible spot I could to keep it from rusting at all. Good Luck to everyone else with this problem. Next ill be taking Toyota to Small Claims Court

Mine hasn't failed, only 25,000 miles on the odometer. I think my dad is going to weld it up, he's a heavy duty mechanic, and we have a full shop at our house with a welder and hoist. Hopefully it will look as good as yours!

Im sure your dad will do fine. If he doesnt have enough time to do it all in one sitting then he has the shop there and you will still have your truck avaliable to drive. It will probably take a couple of nights after work to do it right. Mine as well get it done if you have an 05 or 06, also it wouldnt be bad even if you had an 07+ just to be safe and add those vertical gussets. It also depends on how hard you offroad somewhat too. I wish I had a shop at my own damn house! Man i would be working on my truck all the time! Its been like 40's here lately and that was after about 20" of snow so now its just a slush fest going on

Broke my frame December 1st 2007 and got my truck all retrofitted with a new frame by March 1st 2008! But I've had an 05 longer than most folks since I got one of the early production models.

It's all good since it doesn't take an Einstein to know the following:

Does your new frame have the extra gussets that the 07+ have?

Yeah thats a good question ^^^^. I feel really confident in my welding job! Wish I would of known about this thread a long time ago before it all happen. I would of got them welded up then and prevented this shit from happening, but live and learn. I was only without my truck for 3-4 weeks and it only cost me $250. So oh well, but we are going to take Toyota to small claims court soon

I've got an early 05. I don't go off road very much. But I tow motorcycles. I haven't heard anyone talk about this as a possible issue as well? I'll check my mounts asap. Thanks for the thread.

I wouldnt worry about it too much if you dont offroad too much. Its more of a bumpy offroad use thing but still shouldnt happen. Check them to make sure the welds arent cracking or anything like that. Just keep an eye on them from time to time. I dont want everyone to feel like these are bad trucks because of this but just be careful and check on them.

Hey Colville, I've noticed lately that my motor mounts seem to be really soft. Have you noticed anything similar? The other day I was driving around in hard frozen snow, but the truck would break through the crust and kinda hoop, it's hard to explain, but anyway I got out and let my dad drive and watched the engine through the wheel well, and it jumps around like crazy. I know the engine has to move but this to me look quite excessive, it definitely wouldn't help the frame mounts at all. I've also noticed on my passenger side a small rusty crack along the bottom of the weld. Looks like were going to have to fix this asap. I'm going to look into some after market rubbers for the mounts as well.

Checked mine today. No cracks but the top welds are incomplete. I see 1/8 " gap between the frame and the mount. Anything new from toyota?

If your motor is moving around that much I would look at getting something done like I did done. All that moving around will just cause more wear and will probably end up in it failing later on but regular road driving wont hurt it too much, but that rusty crack definetly will over a period of time

Mine seem cool, welds look OK, prod date = 12/04, but I have 4 cyl prerunner. Would rather they look like your after pics do tho even with the 4cyl.

Well if it makes you feel safer then you can go to pretty much any fab shop and see if they will do the work. It is a pain in the ass though, there might be more room with the 4 cyl though. With the V6 there isnt much room in there to work. The guy i had do it only charged me 250 bucks which is a smoking deal! He does really good work too. If you know someone who is capable and is a friend that would be do it and that you trust, then that would be the way to go!

Try getting the word out on this link. It seems to be a major problem, but I didn't see it there. I wouldn't want the Toyota rep to go bad, so maybe they can fix it.:)

    Broken 2005 Tacoma
I have a 2005 Tacoma with the broke motor mount also and it has been sitting since 09/08. I took it in to the dealer service dept and they told me the frame was bent and that I should take it to a body shop and have the frame straightened. So I took it in to my local body shop and they looked at it and said it isn't a bent frame the motor mount is bad. So I take it over to the mechanic in town and have them look at it and they throw it up on a lift and tell me to come take a look at it. I see the wonderful motor mount caved into the frame. GREAT! So over the next month I've been playing phone tag with my dealer's customer relations manager. She had me send all my info and pictures of the motor mount so I do and then she stops returning my phone calls. So I call up the lovely Toyota customer experience number and the lady tells me my truck is out of warranty and there isn't anything Toyota can do. So I call the dealer's main number and ask the lady that answered the phone if I could speak to a manager or someone that would talk to me about my truck. She sends me to the sales manager. :frusty: His solution was to trade my truck in and buy a new Tacoma. Yea like I'm going to buy another truck that's going to fall apart in 4 years.

For those that have had the motor mount failure who have you been talking to and what have they be telling you?

Oh yea mine has a build date of 12/04.

    Here's a picture of mine.

haha all i can do is laugh because you arent going to get anywhere with the dealership unless you're really lucky! They quoted me $10,000 for an entire frame swap F*** that! I went and got mine fixed for $250! I never jumped my truck but if i got the urge to now i would becaue I trust the fix that i got 100%! Sorry to hear about your mounts though man, been there done that, i can give you some more info on what I did, etc. but im not sure how much it would help

I just had mine reinforced on my 2006, same design as the 05s. Didn't want to take Toyota's bullshit when the mounts/frame failed, and didn't want to lose the use of my truck for any amount of time. Maybe someday I'll be able to get reimbursed by Toyota for the cost, but I won't hold my breath.
