I recently bought a 1992 toyota pick up, the engine was rebuilt about 4,000 miles ago but it has an original transmission. The body, drivetrain, and transmission have 265,000 miles. It has an exhaust leak, bald tires, the interior is pretty rough, im not too sure about the dexterity of the transmission but i only paid $1,500 for the truck. Do you guys thinl it was worth it? Because i think it was worth it but im not an expert. I'll have some pix up soon enough.

22re? or the gutless gas guzzling 3.0 v6?

And i bet its a decant deal for a good work/hunting truck. Its kinda scarey buying a "rebuilt" motor as you have no idea if they did it right or anything.

not worth it! but since you're doin a motor swap i guess its all good! $1500 really aint shit for those trucks, i think it would be worth it even with a blown motor! but worse case you just part everything out and scrap the body and easily make a few grand! oh and i got tha same crapy wheels on my 94! haha

lol i have all the parts to fix the body and thats all i really wanted. Im a die hard fan of the older body style look of the toyota so 1500 to me was worth the project. I want to try a diesel motor swap but havent decided. Im gonna get a lil fun out of the drivetrain thats in it first:)

I don't think AL emissions laws are too too bad so I shouldn't have too much trouble with that. You sold ur blown engine for 200? Not bad. I've been shopping around for motors, what is pretty much the biggest I can go? I want a diesel.

Make sure to get a tailgate, if you don't you'll eventually have to replace the whole bed cause it will start warping from the drag of driving down the road. Doesn't look terrible. I've got a 93' I love the look of these trucks.

    How is it lifted??

$1500 for a running 4x4 truck sounds like you did okay. I wouldn't call it a "deal" just because of the mileage and the cosmetic condition, but if it truly runs good, then you did okay.

Looks like a good weekend truck to beat up on. :D

if your going to use a toyota diesel engine do lots of research! the common swap for that truck is a 2l-te lots of people have a problems with them chronically cracking there cylinder heads($$$$). the other common one is the 1kz I'm not to familiar with that one as much. all your questions for the swap are probably already answered on ih8mud.com. i have driven a 85 with the 2lte and its very similar to the 22re except the low end torque is a bit better but the 22re is far more reliable then the 2lte diesel. i would assume the cummings would be a very heavy engine for a mini truck with ifs, but i dont really know the cummings, so just guessing. but i know the bomb proof toyota diesel 3b is a bit much for the mini's with a s.f. axle and i would think the cumming the same.

that being said, does anyone klnow how much the 3.0L V6 SOHC 12V FI weighs? i went to Cummins Mid-South today and talked a guy there that told me that the 4BT engine weighs close to 1,000lbs. so im guessing im gonna need some serious ass in the suspension and frame.
