Nitto Terra Grappler 265/70 R17 correct psi for '09 double cab 17" wheels

For those of you who want to know, I got off the phone with Nitto in California to ask them what the correct pressure is for 165/70 R17 Terra Grappler tires on a 2009 double cab TRD 17"rims (oem tires: 265/65 R17). They said if you have the P's it should be 29 psi if you have the LT's it should be 46 (45.6 to be exact) psi.

 

just make them between 34-40 up front and 32-38 in back, depending on how you want the ride and making sure all the tread is getting worn down (all tread is same color after driving for a while)

 

Do the chaulk test for the right psi. Run a line of chaulk across the tread (side to side), drive a short distance, if it's worn evenly off, you're good, if it's worn on the sides and not the middle, too low, if it's worn in the middle and not the sides, too much pressure.

I'd say TacomaGus is pretty close though.

Are you running the P rated? I was running them at 32 and dropped to 29- they feel a bit sluggish and look a bit low (however, i think p-rated balloon a bit more) but they sure ride nice and soft. If so, what kind of mpg and wear are you getting at 29 psi? Thanks

 

Not the OP but I'm running P-Rated Cooper AT3's in 265/70R17, fronts at 34, rears at 32 (I keep the truck fairly well loaded and it's a double cab 4x4). At that pressure I get right around 20 MPG consistantly.

 

Is the max pressure on that tire 35 psi like the p rated Nitto 265/70?

 

Not sure, I think it's a bit higher but I'll have to check.
