Hey all. Toyota is offering to buy back my truck from me due to excessive frame rust. For those of you that did this, were you able to negotiate with Toyota or was it a take it or leave it offer. I want to see what they put into the offer and what they did not. Supposed to get something in writing tomorrow but until I sign something, the wheeling and dealing is not over. Hey, why shouldn't they get a taste of their own medicine. Let them see what it's like to buy a car. I'm not complaining about the offer but want to know the specifics behind it. Thanks in advance.

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
    How it worked for me:

    Truck inspected and failed.
Sent home with the truck and was told I would get a call in about a week.
Received call and took the truck in and picked up check.
Deposited check and bought a Tundra when it cleared

    There was no negotiating.

Toyota will NOT negotiate at all. Either take the offer or keep your busted truck.

I took the $8800 they offered me for my '97 xtra cab 4x4 w/ 235k miles and bought an '01 DC TRD!!

You will make out like a bandit w/ the buy back!! GL

Weren't any of you interested how they came up with the number exactly? I want to know how the figure was broken down. Just because they are giving me 150% of something, I want to know how they got the "something". Like good old Prez. Reagan said, "Trust, but verify".

I have my appointment set for tomorrow. I'm thinking my 02 will be ok I got under it and didn't really see anything. Kinda just want them to take care of the undercoating and check something off my list of things to do without doing anything at all.

For a 1998 you are lucky. I thought that deal was over and done with. My 1999 has a solid rust free frame........

i dont think the deal is over with.... they put an extendend warranty until 2015 on trucks up to 2000 i think with the right vin number. eventually i am going to take mine in for piece of mine cause the vin number makes mine one that is elgible for the buy back far as your 02 they wont but it back just replace the frame

They get the number by plugging in all the info on your truck on Kelly Blue Book and then give you 150% of the suggested price in excellent condition.

What difference does it make? It's more than you'll get anywhere else.
And you don't have to take it.

I was in a Toyota dealer on Monday, got talking to a guy who was waiting to meet the guy who gives out the checks. He showed me his letter that said he had to get his truck inspected by 12/31/2011. He was getting like 11,500 for his 1999. Not too shabby.

I plugged my info into kbb and the offer was within a few $100 of kbb.

The difference it makes is I'm an informed consumer and want to know if my car was represented accurately. I'm sure if you were in my shoes, you would feel the same way.

Bottom line: the only negotiation is "Take it or leave it"

Yerp^ they don't negotiate. You either take their check or they tell you to kick rocks.
