I have to say, if Toyota ever has a 0% offer on the 5th gen or really good financing I would have to make a very tough choice..

You wouldn't be disappointed. My parents picked up a 5th Gen Limited with all the fixings. Pretty sure they've never been happier with a vehicle.

Yeah, Id also like to not be upside down on a vehicle trade too one of these times..right now it doesnt merit the want of one. My truck is perfectly fine. If anything Id have to trade down for a lower payment, but it was kinda tempting that I could get a Tundra for about 30$ cheaper a month than what Im currently paying. Now, do I need something that big? No. Plus my refuel would have gone up significantly. Im just dreaming as of now, but for now, the Tacoma does just fine.

The ever-so-popular Toyota 4Runner SR5. The affordable choice.

My choice, but no third row available which is a MUST have for us. Plus, this trail edition is a little out of our price range. 40K plus!

Here is a happy medium between the trail and standard SR5. What do you think?

    This SR5 above has...
    No Chrome on the bumpers.
    No chrome on the sides.
No chrome on the grill except for the badge.
Blacked out grill like the trail edition.
Trail edition bumpers BUT they are color-keyed.
Blacked out fender flares also like the trail edition.
    Color-keyed mirrors.
    Color-keyed door handles. No chrome!
No chrome around the fog lights. Instead they are black like the trail edition.
    No hood scoop. That's ok.
SR5 rims instead of the trail edition ones which we don't like.
The 4Runner emblem on the rear tailgate is also black instead of chrome.
Unfortunately this model has no turn signals on the mirrors - first mod. :D
SR5 chrome roof rack is ok with me like the standard SR5.
2nd mod... change out the headlights/taillights to the smoked ones.

I think this completes our wish list. Now we just need to find it!

A cross between the trail and SR5 from the FACTORY?? Is that a special edition or something? Never heard of anything like it.

I would suggest you weight the pros, cons, requirements and make a smart decision.

I first noticed it on this YouTube video. Then did some research. I'm not sure if it exists in the US even though the video was taped in Alabama. I found this SR5 in Canada. I'm not sure about you, but I love this cross between the two. It's even available in a 4X4 model.

    Oooohhhhhh, those bastards.

One guy on t4r.org has a limited and swapped on all of the trail edition bumpers and hood and stuff.

His was silver to start with, so now it just looks like any standard trail. But, if someone were to do this with a Blizzard pearl Limited, that would be an instant hit!

    Here is that guy's build:

For the 5th Generation 4Runners there are 3 models available. The Higher end Limited, the Off road orientated Trail Edition and the base model SR5. The Limiteds and SR5's have the option for the 3rd row seating and a few other amenities. The Trail Edition does not have the option for the 3rd row seating. I was able to pick up my Trail Edition for under $38k and it has the KDSS/NAV and upgraded stereo system.

Unless you know how long he ran it before he realized the oil system wasn't working - I would stay the hell away. No oil = spun rod or main bearing. New engine will be yours before too long.

And the fact that he doesn't know if it was the oil pump or just the sending unit is scary. I have a 22RE 87 4Runner and you can tell instantly if oil pressure hasn't built. My cam shaft is a touch louder when I start it up until the oil pressure builds.

If all he wants is $1500 - he probably know that the engine is screwed up. A 1st Gen 4Runner that runs well is worth at least $3K where I'm from.

Honestly, that one is probably worth taking a look at. Go ask questions and see how much he knows. Even if you end up needing engine work down the road - getting a 1st gen in that good of condition for $1500 is hard to argue with.

:spy: Maybe you can even get it for $1K

Yeah, that makes sense. Nice of him to include that information in the ad.

I bought my 1st gen with a spun main bearing. New long block cost me $1500 and I've probably put just over $2100 into getting it road worthy again.

It was worth it to me. But I can understand it not being worth it for someone who just wants a fun rig.
