i have been in shock. better now..i have a solution on the horizon.

first the seller has been a SAINT. i threw up a WTB and he chimed in with a classic. you know what a "Barn find" is? well, this is mine. he sold it to me for pennies. so cheap, i tried to talk him out of it. he packaged it up and his FFL sent it to my FFL. my FFL called me and told me the rifle was snapped in two.

i kid you not gentlemen..i almost cried. i truly believe we as humans are only offered one BARN FIND in a lifetime. mine got smashed.

UPS insurance is investigating, and it would appear we are covered. a mutual friend offered up a good replacement stock, but he says it can be repaired with very little effort and look darn good too.

after UPS takes a look, i will send it to PA to an absolute master craftman who restored antique double barreled shotguns.

we think this pretty rifle will be saved. the craftman said this is a rare rifle.

no, it was in a box with foam, and that was inside a UPS rifle box.

the soft case was inside the entire package..i am buy a cheap PLANO case and shipping it inside a plain cardboard box.

sentimental value..the seller had it..it was his grandfather's./ always in his family. i had to promise to take care of it.

    oh, btw.

when you are sulking from a busted gun..and you wife asks, "will you be this sad when our dog dies?"

say,,"oh no honey, when the dog dies..it will much more tragic..and sad"

    trust me on this one.

    good eye!

it is a one family gun bought new in 1928. and it is the TARGET version. absolutely sick. the barrel is heavy. really heavy. i am stoked they let a family heirloom go.

it was insured. i dont now how much, but apparently it is covered. i sent it off for repairs monday. i put it in a gun case, and built a box around it. i insured it for $3000, and let UPS have another go at getting it somewhere and NOT turn it into three pieces. they lose it, i am taking the $$ and running.

no. seller is amazing. i tried to talk him out of selling, but he insisted. but only after he talked to his kids. i made him promise to give the kids a heads-up.

he told me not to send payment until i verified that i liked the rifle. if i hated it, simply drop it off at his dad's. (who lives close)

i dont know the seller, but i helped him ship a 356 porsche + finding him a local mechanic. i was available here, to arrange pick up if needed.

he is a good guy. selling the rifle to me, i think is his way of saying thanks.

i finally simply mailed him a check, which he has yet to cash. i imagine we will be friends from here on out.
