So my mechanic has driven my truck a couple times and it hasn't replicated the problem I am having. It is annoying and starting to be unsafe. I am looking for anyone who has had the problem before so I know where I can keep looking.

When I come to a stop, traffic light, stop sign, what ever, my Taco jerks, jumps, lurches, forward. My mechanic wanted me to look at my tach to see if the rpms drop and the idle control over compensates. This is not the case. The truck idles at 750 rpms, just under 1000. It stays the same, then suddenly jumps, jerks, for a second then stops. I have tried checking my vacuum hoses, but have been unsuccessful finding any leaks. Obviously it isn't consistent, but i would say it happens 60% of the time. It sucks because it is enough of a jerk to make the truck go forward if i don't have the break pedal down enough to prevent it.

    Any ideas?

    Z

ps- also if anyone has any tips on servicing the rear drum breaks, let me know, I am planning on doing it myself for the first time.

What you are describing sounds like axle wrap. This sort of thing is fairly common in 1st gens with the original rear leaf springs.

If you are interested in finding out more about what folks here refer to as axle wrap, there has been a lot written about this topic. Here are some interesting threads, and a good place to start.

whippersnapper - i got the truck when it had 140k miles on it. i just had the tranny drained and filled with the filter cleaned out. Because i dont know if it had ever been flushed, we are sticking with draining and refilling.

Thanks for the links to look up axel wrap...i will read up and see if thats it.

Does it feel like a little bump forward or is your truck like full on jerking, as if you had a manual trans and dropped the clutch with the breaks on?
