Toyota Care Synthetic Oil?

Mine is 0w-20. The widow sticker says synthetic oil. The first stuff I got from toyota said oil change at 5000 miles, the reminder letter I got didn't include the oil change. I guess i will find out soon.

I don't care for my local dealers service dept, so I will probably take to the dealer where I purchased it about an hour away. If they don't change it, i will and I will resent Toyota for it.

 

Interesting, mine reads 5w30. Will check my window sticker this weekend to if it states oil used.

 

Because you have a V6 and he has an L4. We've been through this.

 

The poster never said he had an L4 and I am aware of the difference, the OP is clear that this thread is for a V6 only -read it.

 

I'm a tech at a Toyota dealership and I can sum all this confusion up for you. Heres the deal, the only cars Toyota ships with syt oil run the

$53 0w20 oil Toyota/ exxon mobil Case of 6 Quarts Full Synthetic TGMO SN 0W-20 Oil

0w20 oil. All others come with conv oil. You can swap to syt if you want to in any of them but toyota syt oil only comes in 0w20 so if they put that in your 4.0L that is not good, that stuff is way to thin for it. You want to run syt 5w30 oil and you will need to go aftermarket for that because toyota does not make that. They will most likely try and sell your mobile 1 or castoral at some crazy $9-$11 a quart price. The problem is that 99% of people at the dealerships do not fully read the info toyota sends out about this stuff all year when stuff is updated, they just schim threw it. Toyota isn't the problem, its the lazy people at the dealerships you guys are going to. Also, as far as oil change intervals go, both tacoma motors, L4 and V6 have 5k oil changes, even though the new L4 takes syt. All the other toyota vehicles that come with syt are designed for a 10k oil change. I'm going to put either amsoil or mobile 1 syt in my 2011 taco when I do my first oil change. I would not recommend extending an oil change though, plenty of people do it without issues but personally I don't like the thought of it being in there that long. If you want to run syt and bring it to a dealership my suggestion is to buy your own oil and bring it and let them do it with the toyota filter. But do NOT run 0w20 in the 4.0L V6.

Thanks, I don't think TOYO Care has helped one bit on this and if anything made things more confusing for both the dealer and myself. I am planning to go back to doing my own oil changes (M1 5w30 EP) so I can avoid this type of S in the future. They can rotate the tires

 

That is correct! The TOYO Care package I was sent states my V6 DOES use Synthetic, it also has my VIN on it. The owners manual is at least one year older and generic to all models. Which one should be more relevant to the oil my truck should use?

You asked me what my oil cap says and I told you. You said in the original post your truck is a V6, you didn't say anything about this being a V6 only thread.

Anyway, the answer to question of viscosity and oil change interval is in the link I posted a few posts back. I don't think the v6 requires or comes with synthetic. As long as it is changed at 5000 miles it doesn't really matter.

 

I bought my 2011 TRD Sport in July 2011 and my Toyota Care booklet says on the second to last page or page 5 under Service intervals

I don't drive a lot and only have 1,500 miles on my truck so it will be a while till I go to the dealer to see if they will actually change my oil at 5000 miles ?

 

Point is that we all know the L4 comes with synthetic oil and it is the V6 that is in question here and that is why I started the post.

Did you read the whole thing and just look for something to dispute me on? Clearly I meant toyota brand oil, I don't know who physically makes the shit. It comes in a toyota bottle and that's what dealerships carry.

This is the sythetic oil that toyota "makes" and so any other weight sythetic they use is not going to be toyota brand. Most likely mobile 1 or castoral.

 

You can bring your oil and the toyota care will pay for them to do an oil change with your oil you bring, it will only cover the labor though not the oil.

 

Unfortunately, Mobil1 is not synthetic, it is a class 3 petroleum base. M1 is labeled synthetic due to a court case allowing it. A true synthetic has a very different molecular structure than dino, even though it is made from petroleum products(esters). Think of M1 as a top class dino, not synthetic.

 

I'm sure the oil comes from some other commany's factory and they just throw it in that bottle. But that is what the dealerships use and that is what toyota care pays for. Also on a side note, I'm assuming you are aware that toyota really only makes the base body/wiring/engine also. All the components are out sorced to other company's. (denso,dephi,ect.) The majority of product failures are not due to toyota, its usually the company that produces that individual part.

0w-20 oil...on paper,the vehicle does get better mileage....but,it is still ,ONLY, 0w-20 oil,synthetic or not,you still have a combustion engine. Change the oil regularly...3000 miles...synthetic is for extreme comditions,hot or cold...thats it. Synthetic has better flow characteristics and breakdown tolerences,that is it!....change the oil regularly.
