Difference between TRD and aFe?

Is there a difference in the two besides looks?

Is there really a difference between the stock intake and aftermarket besides sound?

 

one says trd and other says afe. Stock is already a cold air intake, just get an afe dry filter and call it good. I'm happy with it.

I sold my afe intake for the current setup.

 

I must be completely retarded, but what is the point of the housing over the filter?

 

So it pulls cold air from the fender and not hot air from the engine bay.

 

So is it worth it to buy one without the housing?

 

Whipper is right, your stock intake is a cold air intake. You might end up with slightly better throttle response and you'll definitely end up with more noise but only minimal power gains if any. The ones with the housing would be better since they will also pull cold air from the fender well, the ones without the housing will pull in hot air from the engine bay and I believe some have had issues with water sheeting off the hood and right onto the filter with the open ones.
