Never ending brake shake

Hey guys I'm a long time lurker, but this is my first post. I have a 99 Tacoma xcab TRD with a brake shake that will not go away. I turned the front rotors and drums enough times till they needed to be replaced ( about 3 times with test drives in between). Replaced the rotors, drums, shoes, and pads, test drove to find I STILL have a brake shake. Turned the new rotors with an on-car lathe, no change. Turned the new drums, no change. It's driving me nuts. Has anyone had a bent rear axle? I heard a rumor this could cause a brake shake with no driving vibrations. But im not sure how to check it. Dial indicator on the outside of the axle while spinning it? Buy will that yield accurate results without loading the bearing? Any input would help. Thanks so much

 

is it in the pedal or does the whole truck shake?
if its the pedal id say master cylinder problems if not your sol cause i dont know lol

 

I agree I'd say axle wrap. I have the same problem, I just tighten my ubolts and grease my drive shaft it helps some what.....

 

doesn't sound like axle wrap to me. ..shaking when braking wasn't the symptom for my axle wrap issues. ..it was a clunking after letting off the brake at a stop


one way to tell if it's the front or back is to do a stop using the emergency brake only ..if you get the shakes using only the emergency brake, then you know the issue is in the rear. if not, then it's in the front.

after fighting the shakes for a couple years, i finally found my solution ....centric premium rotors and porterfield pads. i couldn't hardly go a month using toyota pads and rotors before the shakes started. ....they just didn't stand up to my 32" tires and the atlanta traffic.

 

I didn't even think of axle wrap. It's possible! I have an EMU lift on the way so I'll see if the new leaf springs change anything. I have tried pulling the E- brake and don't get a shake. But I feel as though the E- brake just can't apply the same force as power brakes. But the lack of shake with the E-brake is why I went after the fronts. On car lathe accounts for anything between the rotor and hub, hub problems, or whatever and it didn't change. Perhaps I'll put the lift on before going any further

 

And to answer questions, it's only while braking, worse when braking a lot ( just like you're run of the mill brake shake) it shakes the pedal and truck. This is great you guys, thanks so much for the ideas.

 

my brake shake was from the cv boots being cracked and the joints dried up, i replaced my axles and joints (after first replacing pads and rotors, still no fix) and that fixed my problem.

 

Was about to mention this.

If it's 4WD i'd look into it.

Also look at the play on your steering rack..could cause brake shake.

 

check wheels my car had a bent one. new brakes still shook took it to get tires rotated had 2 slightly bent, replaced wheels and it stopped
