Pinion leak

Hey Guys and Gals,

So my issue is that I am pretty sure that the pinion seal on my truck went, based upon this picture, and the noise that is coming out of the rear of the truck while driving over 50 km/h (30 mph).

The truck is a 09 Access cab SR5 and has 119,800 km (74,400 miles) on it and I am still covered under ECP (extended warranty)



It goes into the shop today to get looked at, but the kicker is that most of the parts wont be in stock so, Im going to order them on my own, so that I can get my truck back before the weekend (vs. waiting till early next week)

I was able to find this wonderful link and image (see attachment), but I just want to make sure I am ordering the right parts from the dealership so that my truck is back on the road before the weekend.

I am thinking I need to order:
17 - Front Pinion Bearing
18 - Front Pinion Seal
15 - Rear Pinion Bearing

I tried searching for more info on this, but couldn't find the parts list. So if anyone has done this before can you let me know, so I can get my truck back asap.

If you have an extended warr. it's up to the repair shop to order the parts. And then they have to be approved by the ext. warr.

So maybe you mis phrased it but they handle everything.
Sometimes they send people down to look at the vehicle to confirm the parts are really needed before being ordered.

Never heard of a customer ordering their own parts for a warr. repair.

 

I was just hoping to order the parts so that they were in the dealership. Most of the dealerships in Calgary carry very limited stock of parts, and if they need parts is over-nighted from either Vancouver or Toronto.... In my case they probably wont look at my truck till tomorrow morning, they will most likely need parts, so that pushes the repair back to Saturday, and as we all know the dealerships are pretty slow on Saturday, so it would be Monday or Tuesday before I get my truck back...... really don't want to have that happen.

I was just hoping I could be pro-active and have the parts there, so that they can fix my truck that day.

I guess that is just wishful thinking.....

 

AHH I see. It's a good idea in theory however, you have no idea what you need for parts. You said you have a noise. so you going to order 7 or 800 dollars in parts just to be sure? The restocking fee would kill you if they would even take the parts back. It's possible they could order you a complete pumpkin and just swap it out saving a whole day of labor if the noise and leak are in that section.

It stinks i know. But warr. has a procedure. They are in the drivers seat.

I deal with this all the time. They are on their own time schedule.

The parts are max $200, the seal I think is $27 and the front bearing is $159.

Who knows what parts are needed, but if its just the seal and I can get my truck back in a day vs. 3, the small cost that I may incur would be worth it for me.

I just want my truck back running properly cause I don't have the option for public transit to work. (I live in Calgary and commute to High River, its about 125 km round trip)
