I have 40K+ miles, and my brake pads are around 8mm+. New pads are around 11 mm so goign by numbers I should need new pads around 130K.

It was my front pads that needed replaced (are their even disks in the back?) because I drive down a steep mountain every weekend.....very steep 1.5 mike road.....

I am in the mountains too. But most of the time I let my engine do the braking. I also don't ride behind people so no hard braking either. I pump the brakes ( me truck driver :D) instead of riding them down. That keeps them cooler and with less dust collecting between the pads and rotors.

No, the back brakes are drum brakes (more surface area, less expensive, may never need replacing, what big semi trucks have).

Just about ready to pass 60k and still going strong on stock rotors and pads. Daily commute is stop and go traffic in and out of Boston.

Most every modern car I've owned, the OEM pads let go around 36k. Almost like clockwork. People who get more out of their pads must drive like old ladies. ;)

Traded the '06 in at about 60K and the pads were still great. 6 speed and downshifting all the time.

I got almost 90k on my old stock 4runner before I changed them. I only have 17,550k on my Taco now. However, I have a 3' lift on the Taco. So it will be interesting to see how much the lift affects the brakes. I have been told it will effect brake pad longevity significantly.

Just wondering is their a write up on changing the brakes? I hear it's very simple!

A lift alone will not effect your brake pad life. Only if you stuff significantly larger tires under the truck will your brakes wear prematurely.

28.5k so far and brakes are still "good"...even though the pedal is soft. Once I get new tires for winter, I'm gonna measure them. Hopefully engine braking and coasting with the manual trans should make the brakes last for a long time.
