Never done couples shooting, just a wedding, but I was more there for the candid shots.

^^above. And i'd say it'd be about a 2 hour shoot. And I would most likely give her all the photos (minus the ones that just absolutely suck) without editing them. I'd let her do that cause I know how she is. Plus we're Graphic Design students and were both good at editting them so I'd leave to to her so she could do it the way she wanted to.

my wife and i went wheeling today for the first time. It was a perfect day. We took 100 + photos, but not very "good" ones. I'll keep most of them because of the memories, but as for ones i'd call good, there are very few. It was very sunny with lots of shadows. I got a lot of over exposure as well as parts with under exposure. any suggestions on how to deal with that?

Here is one of the pictures that i really liked.

When the sun is really hard you could try using ND filters

don't be afraid to speed up your shutter speed and up you f/stop to like f/8 or even f/11 (higher f/stops will increase your Depth of Field)

    This is for krap22.

You don't really need to use ND filters unless you want to really slow the shutter down in bright light--like shooting a water fall with smooth water effect. Most digital cameras allow enough adjustment between ISO and Aperture and Shutter Speed to make shooting in bright sun not so much of a PITA. If you want the sky to really pop, then a polarizer would be one way to do that.

As far as eliminating shadows. You could add a little fill flash to compensate. In this case, that might not help since you're pretty far away from the truck and the light likely won't have the power to 'reach'. You could reflect light to the shadows using a reflector (some fold up to where they'd fit behind the seat nicely) or you could meter what's important and let the other stuff go--in this photo, I'm guessing you want a better exposed truck--so just increase the exposure by 1 or 2 thirds of a stop.
Or you could try and position the truck so it's more evenly lit by the sun-like at a 45' angle across the trail with the wheels pointing straight ahead.

Photography is about making memories and sometimes even a crap shot means more to the shooter than one that's "perfect". I say keep making those memories and keep learning. Eventually, there'll be more "keepers" in the bunch

This is why i love this forum. So much info, and not just about Tacomas. We have a lot of keeper pics for the memories. I'm still learning so this is great info. Thank you.

Good info, but yeah I've seen photographers use ND filters where there is strong light such as at 12PM to attenuate light and reflections, the water effect thing is just one of the uses for the filter.

    This link is pretty good:

These are graduated neutral density filters which are used when there's a few stop difference between the sky and foreground of a landscape. I suggested it's not needed because in the OP's scene, it really wouldn't help much because the range isn't that great. Overall, the image is maybe a little OE but evenly exposed--the truck is sitting in it's own shadow (and that of a tree). So whether graduated or solid, ND isn't going to fix that (well, unless you cut it to fit the shadow area of the truck).
