Clarification On The Already Asked Lift Questions!

Hey there Taco Brethren!!!

First off I would like to state that I have owned my 2008 DC 4x4 TRD Tacoma for 6 months now, and out of that six months I have been able to enjoy its sensation for less than a couple months. On top of that I do have that Newb mentality and I am not full of the necessary modification wisdom.

That said, once I am back from my deployment I plan on doing a heap of modifications to my toy. One of which is a lift kit. I know many of my questions have been asked in several other threads, but I wanted to have my own post , and get some further clarification from you experts.

I am looking to put a 6" lift kit on my Taco. I have been trying to make up my mind on between the Pro Comp, and the Fabtech.

My first questions concerning the two lifts...

- Many of the sites have the kits only for the trucks up to the '07 models. Now although the kit model is the same, will it fit the '08 as well?

- Newb question: I have found one site that sells the 6" kit for the 2wd/4wd "PRERUNNER" version. If I recall my is not the Prerunner, but I may be wrong. As far as I thought the Prerunner was only the 2wd version. Can somebody please provide some clarification concerning this?

- I understand the kit is everything I will need. Is there any other mods I will need to purchase other than the kit itself?

- Last but I am sure not least : Is there any seasoned members who would be able/willing to do the install for pics/food/beer/tech notes in or around Kansas? I would love to not have to pay the labor costs for an install around a local shot! Plus photogrpahy is a second favorite hobby of mine with drinking beer being tied for first (spent 2 years in Germany)!

I enjoy answering your questions and I will do my best to provide you with all the info you need to make an educated decision when purchasing your suspension kit. These are my educated answers based on years of dealing with these kits, from a sales and installation prospective!

Fabtech, ProComp and RCD Suspension Systems should fit the 2008 model Tacoma's . Call the manufacturer to confirm that they have tested the kit on your model and year . Many times new models have slight design changes that alter proper fitment of the suspension. ​

When choosing a suspension suspension decide what features are important and what style of driving you do.

Features to look at are :

Tire Clearance - What is the desired tire size you want to use?
Vehicle Height - Have a garage? Want to go as big as possible?
Company Reputation - Get feedback from members with these kits
Suspension components - "Basic" to "Performance" Differences? coil spacers, replacement struts or replacement coil overs.

Give me a little information based on these questions and I will give you my best recommendation and reasons why I chose it ...

I really appreciate your willingness to help me out! You seem like a really cool person considering I have read many of your comments to other people with similar questions.

Tire Clearance: I am leaning towards 35" tires (35x12.50Rx17 MT Baja Claw Radial, with 17x9 Moto Metal 951 wheels). I do not want to go any bigger right now, because I have read several threads around here stating that I will have to change out gears if I do. Changing out gears is something I do not want to do at this time. I am willing scale down to 33" tires if it is more logical, but 35's is what I prefer!

Vehicle Height: I am almost 100% sure I want to go with 6" of lift. I do like how the 3" Tacos look, but after seeing a 6" Taco, 3" will not be able to fully satisfied me. I do have a garage, but I am not too worried about getting it inside. Sometime down the road I plan on putting up a decent sized Morton Building.

Suspension Component: I have a little extra money to spend so I am willing to put some of that towards the higher end of either kit. From what I have read, coilovers are the way to go if one has the money.

Overall I am primarily intersted in a lift kit for cosmetic reasons, but just as much for off-roading. I mainly do highway driving, but very frequently find myself off-road, in mountains, in mud, snow, or water. On top of all of that I am looking for reputable, quality kit.
